Sport shift question?

I thought I read the in normal d5 the car will shift at 6900 at WOT but i think I read that if you put it in sport shift mode and let the car shift for you it shifts at 7200. is this true? Ive been playig with the sport mode and it seems to make the car runs faster from a roll because it makes it more like a manual and keeps the rpm's up but I think for a dead stop just keeping it in normal drive is good. Any opinions. I dont race the car but sometimes I might. Let me know

in ss mode, the tranny won't shift until you shift it. it will bounce off of the rev limiter. except that damn sissy 1 to 2 shift. if you gate shift it, it will stay in first gear until you shift it to second though.

I dont think so. I put my car in sport shift mode and the car shfter for me. So your saying it will shift for you in 1st and 2nd gear but I will have to shift 3rd myself or it will just bounce of off the limiter

It does shift for you. I did it the other week on accident. The music was too loud and I was on the freeway. When traffic started to roll again I forgot it was in SS. Yes it shifts from 1-2 but it will also do it in other gears at a certain point. I don't know if it is at a certain rpm or mph. But it does. Acura has one of the best autoshifts of any car manufacturer out there. It will actually hold the gears instead of shifting for you. I have driven plenty of other cars with the auto stick and most of them shift for you if you leave it in one gear to long. Such as in other cars while rolling through a parking lot in second gear it will usually up shift for you. Acura does not do this. Bow down to Acura. I believe this was one of car and drivers favorite things about the cl and also other Acura cars. I know somebody has the article poster somewhere.

no, in ss mode the car will just hit redline until you shift yourself. the only exception is the 1-2 gear shift which will automatically do itself.

you made no sense. youre saying it does shift for you in the beginning of your statement, but then youre praising it for the ability to hold a gear till you shift??

i usually shift at about 6900 according to the tach, the needle will be at 7200 by the time the tranny shifts, but i think my needle reads about 200 rpms off anyway. safety precations by the factory?

thats not an easy question to answer...if you wanna try an experiment ill explain...disconnect your negative terminal on your battery and then go drive in SS mode from dead stops at WOT the irst time it'll start the shift at around 6200-6400 next time it'll rev higher and the next time again...very rearly it would bump the rev limiter for me on the 1-2 when in SS ,but what it comes dowen to is this one first is so short that the shift must be started well before 6900 or you'll live on the limiter it'll bang like 5 times about 6700 if you're lighnting fast...it will not ! under any circumstances up shift beyond 1st when in SS and in 2nd you can initiate the shift about 6900 or so maybe later for a stock car...(my RPMs climb alittle faster than most)...BTW the rev limiter is set at 7100 by the ECU what your tach reads is another story..
here's alittle vid liste for the slight bump off the limiter on the 1-2

Automatic Transmission Question

Hi guys, new to the forum, got a question. When I switch to sports shift it does shift from 1-2 automatically, When I get to 3 it then automaticallys shifts to 4 for me. Is that a major problem? When goin g around 80mphs the RPM only reach up to the #2. Please Advise!!!

the car will shift to the next higher gear if you bouce off of the rev limiter more than 2 times. been there, done that.

I use Mobil 1. I guess I'm a glutton for a $65 oil change. I suppose the 6k extra miles before you HAVE to get an oil chance isn't that bad though.

p.s. This is sure to kick off the Mobil 1 vs. Royal Purple issue.

revelation

i only drive in ss mode now! and if im in the regular d5, i accidentally shift up to Nuetral b/c im used to only ss mode. anyone else like this? lol i love the ss mode...

also in 2nd, it does shift down to 1st when you would want it to at a certain point of the throttle close to WOT. when you floor it through first, it shoots into 2nd!!! [at least for me with headers and CAI] and you get 5 m.p.h. faster as it shifts into 2nd. so in first i think you hit 40 at redline in my car, but im going 45 by time i hit second gear, which ends very fast at 60m.p.h. i love the automatic shift into 2nd B/C MOST HUMANS COULDN"T DO IT PERFECT ENOUGH TO GET THE extra 5m.p.h. EVERY TIME!!!! learn to appreciate it...

and i pulled on an S2000 last weekend [see "street encounters"] and its only cuz i pulled everytime he had to shift...go ss mode!!!!!
