Some interesting news on my stolen CL 6 Speed in SF

I ran a CarFAX and someone bought it in November 2009. CarFAX does not show where I was rear-ended in 2004 even though I reported to insurance AND DMV and it was like $1,000 in repairs. CarFAX also does not show it being a theft recovery (twice!).

The car was registered by its new owner in SF.

Man whomever bought my stolen car had some very useful information missing from the CarFAX. VIN is 19UYA41603A006276.

How could this info NOT be on the CarFAX??

Wait...your car was stolen and then sold to someone else who registered it? How could that happen?

This is what they do.

They steal your car... rip it apart and put the parst in a storage space... put the rest of the car in a parking lot were a police officer would find it and report it and in time would be sold in a police auction for dirt cheap and the person would buy it back who has all the parts and then sell it since its now a new owner ship... or something like that :P

Carfax blows. All should know this. About the only thing they are good for is mileage checks, & even that isn't always accurate.
I'm confused though. The title should have stated theft recovery. Maybe it's a bate car now?

They didn't steal any parts from the car except the ECU.

the took ur vin. got a key cut.

took another 6speed CL, programed the key into that ecu. then took that ecu and plugged it into ur car and the key turned the car on. simple and easy.

No actually they didn't. The car had no ECU when I got it back... it would start but only after the engine cranked 5 times. Removing the ECU from the car allowed them to use a key cut to my locks that they bought from a buddy at another Acura dealer, which they got from my VIN.

And of course the DMV and police are completely worthless in these situations.

Best to keep your car garaged, hidden and not to attract attention with exterior mods.

Not saying you did anything to warrant this, just what I believe is necessary in these times.

I got this email from CarFAX... what BS they are:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting CARFAX. My name is Kate and I will be assisting you with your issue.

We regret any misunderstanding about our service and I appreciate you taking the time to inquire with us. Our company never guarantees reporting all accident events or that we can provide a complete product. Instead, we advise that our service is based solely on information supplied to us and that not all accidents/issues are reported to our organization.

In regards to stolen data, CARFAX receives stolen vehicle information from multiple sources but it does not include all stolen vehicle information that is available. We do recommend that it is best to verify the current status of a vehicle with local law enforcement if you suspect the vehicle has been tampered with or stolen.

We suggest using our service as one important tool along with a physical inspection in the car buying process and never for sole reliance. I am sorry if you were under any other belief about what our service provided. We encourage all to carefully review notices listed on our Order Form prior to purchasing and listed throughout the CARFAX Report, making ourselves accessible to any/all when questions need answering by our valued customers.

Unless you have further questions/concerns I can address for you, thank you for the opportunity of assisting you today.

Sincerely,

Kate

I remember hearing something on the news a few years back, about how there was some lawsuit filed against them for providing either misinformation, or no information.

Good to see they changed their ways lol

I haven't posted here in 4+ years but I thought some of you may be interested in what became of my car... apparently went to Chula Vista then apparently disappeared into the ether. I last saw the car in September of 2009 when I was paid out for it.

Sad that such a nice car ended up like that.

Wow that is crazy! 2 years ago, one of my CL's was stolen in SF and exactly 1 month later I found it by checking the parking ticket data base everyday and sure enough it popped up for not having a license plate and for not being moved for street cleaning. I instantly drove to the location and sure enough, there she was however, not in the condition it was prior to being stolen. All of my things were stolen and the car was thrashed. They even sprayed some sort of chemical all inside the car almost like a fire extinguisher. They also smashed out my windshield and took some parts out from under the hood (intake, battery, plastic cover...). I ended up keeping the car and fixing it back up and after purchasing another ecu from a dismantling yard, I had an Acura dealership reprogram it to another key. A few months later I was working on the car only to find my original ecu jammed behind the dash. I bet the same people who stole yours, stole mine; shady characters! Thank you for sharing this post and sorry to hear about what happened, I have been through this several times and it's never fun. You reap what you sow...

That was a good idea you had checking for parking tickets. I never thought of that!

I got it back and it was slightly trashed but not much at all but it was stolen the same night I got it back and that was all she wrote.
