So what's the verdict on XEPHYR?

You guys are funny. You slime the guy cause he won't return calls/emails etc. until he shows up, does his thing, and then...he's the man!

So what is the deal for all those that did not attend the meet? Is he the real deal or is it best to only pay him in person or after the goods come in? Shawn and Poobah are delighted now, but I'm not sure that the rest of us have a warm and fuzzy feeling yet.

Please advise.

Well, I never slammed him myself although I must admit that I was a bit concerned after the long lack of contact here.
He does have a cell phone and it was ringing all day.

He is definitely not “smoke & mirrors”.
He showed up with a trunk full of products and even had some new R&D stuff on his CL-S.
He answered all of the many questions that we fired at him yesterday.

He said he is selling a lot to the BIMMER guys (hey a mans got to eat) and that is taking a lot of his time.

Alright,my impressions.First off Chris is a good guy,his willingness to come to the NY,CT,NJ,PA meet and install four of his systems says alot about his confidence in his product.Speaking of the intakes I have to say they looked well thought out with an emphasis on simplicity and ease of installation. One big plus is that none of the factory hoses etc.have to be fooled around with. The factory flex pipe between the throttle body and the airbox remains in place which is an excellent idea as the AEM unit eliminates this piece forcing the AEM intake to move with the engine.Although AEM does supply flex mounts they are rather small and do not seem to offer enough movement room.Another big plus with the Xephyr is the noticeable lack of noise. That annoying hum or whistle as some describe the intake noise at idle is not present in the Xephyr. This is a huge plus as many people have complained about this noise in particular.I would like to see some dynomometer runs on this system although I suspect it will be quite similar in performance to the AEM.Another big plus is the preinstalled safety valve. All of this and it is less money,Id have to say it is a good product from a small company that has a few growing pains to overcome.Have patience give Chris a chance to get things in order I think you will pleased with the intake.Jens

Sorry, my post reads a little too harsh. Frankly, I have no bad opinion of Chris. I have no need for a CAI (read: no extra money) so I am just an interested bystander. However, there have been alot of questions and not alot of explanations other than "I've been busy." So I was wondering what the guys thought after their experience on Sat.

Thanks for the response.

From what I could tell Chris appears to be a very busy guy. Like Shawn said his phone was ringing all day while he was installing the cai's. I like the looks of all the cai's he had except the red one. The polished and black chrome looked great. Like Jens said it already has the bypass valve installed and has alot of features the AEM does not.

I have spoken to Chris on many occasions especially with coordinating the NJ Meet. After the meet we spoke for about 45mins on his way home from the meet (he drove 2 hours) back home. Chris is a strait-up guy with a booming business and a-lot of customers. He came out, in the cold, and installed 4 CAI's. Bloodied knuckles and dirty hands and 3 hours later 4 CAI's were installed and like little kids we were all over the car.

This morning I unplugged my battery for a 1/2 hour and noticed even more power from the CAI. The next hour I spent on the major roads doing brisk accelerations and drooling from the awesome VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM. Chris's CAI is what the CLS needs. Definitely a good starting point for modding your ride. The CAI seems to give the engine just what it needed to eliminate that slightly restrictive feel when your topping out your gears. I am beyond happy and grateful for the FREE installation. As soon as chris sends me a sticker or two I will promote his product to everyone I know.

I believe it has to do with resetting the ECU to adjust to the new air intake.

I'm not really sure, but I figured he would talk about it himself if he wanted to.

Yo boys, I gotta give props to Chris. I mean the man was dressed up to go out not install CAIs, but he got down and dirty and did 4 cars. Thats customer service. While I did not get one there, I am planning soon. I rode in a CL right after the install and you can deffinetly tell a difference in acceleration. The sound difference comes much later in the RPMs after about 4k.
