so i'm experiencing my first electrical problem.

Okay, a few months ago, my battery seemed to have died .. no biggie I say, so I replaced it. Few weeks were fine, then sometimes it would be slow to start up, like it'd crank and the interior lights would flutter before the engine turns over. Now, not a day goes by when I don't jump the damn car with our Suburban. Obviously, something's draining the poor goldie's power, even with the key out of the startup.

At first my friends and I were speculating alternator failure. Cool I say, it's overdue for maintence anyway. 65k miles, should've been done 5k miles ago.

My dad decides to take the CL-S for a ride .. he tells me when he gets in, he hears a crackling noise within the speakers. I'm half-deaf, so I can't really notice the fine details of what's going on in the interior. Plus when I get in the car, my first act is reach up and start the car, so my exhaust drowns any kind of sound out.

So I guess it's safe to assume that something in the stock Bose system is shorted and is leaking battery power even with the key not attached. However, despite my dad's story, Acura wants to conduct a full diagnosis, which will be kinda pricey.

What're your guys' thoughts? I plan on selling the CL-S soon .. so I wanna keep any kind of expense thrown at the car, down.

although the stereo causing a problem like that could happen, i would have to say it's highly unlikely.

-Try this,

When your car is running, disconnect the positive side of your battery to see if your alternator is going bad.

If it stays running, your alternator is fine, and you should look elsewhere for problems, probably wiring issues. Get the Helms manual and shoot the wires (provided you have a multimeter).

Good luck

Pull the fuse to the radio for a few days-if the problem goes away then you have found the drain.

Also check that the light in the trunk is going off when the lid closes. Sounds silly but it has happened.

What kind of shape are your battery terminals in?? Are they tight too? I think a local parts store would be able to test the battery/alternator system for free or extremely cheaply.

you do that to an alternator now a days and you have just destroyed it, the alternators on new cars are not like the old ones, they are there to keep the battery charged up, what runs the car is the battery, you full field an alternator and its fried. they can't handle the current the old one could, that's why if you get a new alternator they say replace or fully charge and check your battery (its says that on the warranty card) because a battery that is not fully charged will do the same thing, it will full field the alternator and it will fry it.

update on the car.

Well looks like the battery is at the end of its rope, only needs about an hour before it's completely dead. I know this because my college class is only an hour and fifteen minutes. Kinda embarrassing watching a former $32,000 sports/luxury car get jumped by an old Explorer.

And anyone know where the radio fuse is located? It's not in the engine fuse box ..
