So I got my mechanic to do the 3x3 tranny drain. Did he do it right?
So basically some idiot put dexron on a basic drain/fill a few months back, so I needed to have the whole thing flushed. My local acura dealer quoted me $190 for the 3x3 which is insane.
I e-mailed my local mechanic (who is an awesome mechanic, better than the acura guy IMO) the service bulletin about the 3x3, he said he would do it for $120. Awesome.
I just picked it up and he said he followed the bulletin 100%. Disabled the traction control, revved it to 2nd gear (wouldn't go past on the lift) then forced it go to go 5th, reverse, neutral, etc.
However, he said that the FIRST drain was black, smelly, as I expected. But he said the second to two times it was clear.
Does this sound right? Shouldn't the second drain still be... sorta black?
Maybe he just meant it was getting clearer each time and just didn't express himself correctly, but it kinda seems like it wasnt mixing correctly before the next drain.
For anyone who has done this themselves... is it usually pretty clear as of the second drain?
I mean the thing is shifting 100x better so I'm pretty content, I just want to make sure I didn't just spend $130 for a glorified drain and fill.

Theres a DIY somewhere for the 3x3 trannny flush.
I thinks its drain and fill, drive around, drain and fill, drive around, drain and fill, done. Something like that.

If you have a jack & jack stands and a usable garage, it is pretty easy to do. All you need is a 3/8 ratchet, an 18mm (if I remember right) socket, some socket extensions, a funnel and a container to store the used ATF to do the job.

So this was a drain and fill procedure, not a flush right? I thought flushing an auto tranny could result in death of the tranny because it takes out the particle that might be holding it together?
