So I am gonna go to Xlnt Tint on Weds.

So what type of tint would you guys go with? They have one that is full metal something and the other that is the regular tint that is partially dyed and partially metal. I think the metal one is lighter, but it is not going to fade no matter how long you have it on your car, while the metal/dye one will fade a little over time.

I have a V1 and was thinking about 35% tint all around...they are going to paint the top dot matrix part because they said it would probably not be a good thing for the tint to be there?

Any suggs??

I always thought that the best tint matched the upper part of your front windshield. Less problems with coppers then. JMO.

I got 28% all around from xlnt tint. They tinted over the dot matrix and it looks ok. It's been 11 months now and no problem so far.

Remeber to visit their website to get a $10 off coupon!

Yeah I know....I found the coupon last night

What type of tint did you get? The full metallic or the normal ones? Did they say that the top matrix dots would be covered in the no bubbling gaurantee?

Yeah I got tint at XLNT last year. I sent Kavex and a couple other people too.

I still have that dot matrix crap...you can check it out for yourself at the meet on Thursday!

All i know is don't go on weekends
they play me like a fool for 5 , almost 6 hours...lotsa people take in their cars on the weekend

About the metallic tint...be aware it will take 4-6 weeks to completely dry out
and the dot matrix part of the rear may or may not cling well....you can tell them to paint over it with black, but IMO it will look worse

i paid $170 for Quantum film
all around 31% (the third lightest)

I dunno about you guys, but I have to honestly say, If i were given a second chance at it, I wouldn't go there
my overall satisfaction with this place : rated "C"

LOL..

Yeah I am going on weds morning..so you are saying that the metallic might not stick on the dots but the other one will stick better? Yeah the lady that showed me the tinting stuff showed me her accord that had it painted on top...don't know. That is one huge top part that those accords have, and she got it painted over? I might just ask them to tint it...still don't know metallic or not Is 35% Metallic too light?

I'm getting tint on Wednesday too. I think the place I'm going said they use Sun Guard or something like that.

Is that stuff any good?

I don't want it too dark so I dunno what % to get.

I also don't know if there's options of type of tint, or does Sun Guard only make one type?

Metallic tint + V1 or NAV = BAD NEWS

Not confirmed, but Mike Valentine recommends against Metallic.
Wayne from Park Ave Acura has posted that several customers have had problems with the NAV after installing Metallic on the rear glass.

Why take a chance and reduce the effective range of you V1?

I had my car tested for metallic tint yesterday. I put the navi in diag mode where it shows how many satellites it can see, up to 8. I backed my car into the shop (concrete tilt up industrial) and got 3 birds. We rolled a sheet of tint over the rear glass and lost them all. When we removed the tint they didn't come back even after a reboot. So I drove just outside the shop and got 6 birds. We rolled out the tint again and the 6th blinked on and off. So that's like 1/2 satellite loss from the tint. The AM radio still worked too. So in marginal conditions (like inside a parking structure or surrounded by big downtown buildings) metallic tint could be a problem. But out in the open it shouldn't make much difference. I'm getting it installed Saturday.

i have 16% i think on the back, it's pretty dark and then 23% on the sides; if your looking to the back of the car you can't see anything, from the side barely anything. My v1 didn't really suffer at all, or atleast it wasn't noticable.

try to make the back darker then the sides, this will give it a darker appearance. Cause the majority of the light that enters your car is through our back window.

What are you crazy ???

I thought after reading your TEXT that you would decide NOT to go with Metallic.
You’re comfortable with the loss of signal, more power to ya.

What about when the weather is less then perfect?
I know it “never rains in California, but I’ve traveled through some heavy fog/snow where my NAV display was inaccurate and flickering between YELLOW and GREEN strength display.
In this same situation, you will probably have NO signal.
And what about your RADAR detector? How much is it effected?

I would reconsider your decision.

I normally get 8 satellites out in the open. Parked with my rear window a couple of feet from a concrete building I had 6. The tint only cost be 1/2. With the redundancy built in to the system I doubt I'll miss 1/2 of a satellite. I get worse less than that in my garage with the metal door closed and it still works. I don't have a radar detector so that's not an issue.

How strong are they? What process are they made with?

I am very interested in them, but lacking a summer job, I wouldn't be able to get them yet.

I do think they look great on your car. I wonder if they'd look as great on my Aegean CL-S.... hmmm.

Er nm, those have to be 17s if they're only 21 lbs.

According to autocarparts.com, the 18s weight 26lbs each and the 19s weigh 30lbs each.

I wish the good looking wheels weighed a lot less TOO.

I think the SSR Competitions are kinda ugly, but they're so light I understand why people buy them.

no they are 18"s and thats what Dazz told me, they said 21 lbs. They 26 lb's might be the 3 piece. These are the one piece. I can get them for you for about 1100$ or know of places you can go too. They are very well made, I believe they are casted. I don't know much about that stuff though. They have held up really good. I bent and cracked one about a year ago, but that was cause i hit a 2x4 doing about 110.

Yeah they were the 3-peice. I didn't know they made one piece versions. I don't even know wtf the difference is.

Anyway, one of yours cracked? Yuck. Are they not made strong or did you hit the grand canyon of potholes?

here let me show you the bend, it's very minimal. I was actually really surprised that it didnt' do alot more damage considering how fast i was going and how big the piece of wood was. I was probally going about 95

as you can see it's a very slight bend, i just got scrooed cause there was a lil crack. Most bent rims i see are bent at low speeds like 30-60 MPH. And they usually get TORN up. So i was really pleased.

Damn Scott!! You have some crazy dark tint! I didn't notice it that much at the 1st meet because I wasn't really looking for tints yet..

I guess I am going to get the regular tint...

CLpower...yeah love those rims. No money!! Damnit! Summer job might be able to pay for it...or come july my money that I have in a CD is going to be free

Oh yeah...CLpower if you read this before tomorrow..Did you tint over the dots on the top? Did it bubble? I am really having a hard time deciding whether or not to let them tint it..

I'm about to go to my tint appointment right now.

Since the place I'm going to offers a lifetime guarantee for bubbling peeling, etc, I think I'll just have them go right over the dots and if there's problems I can bring it back and either have them fix it or just cut it to right below the dots.

Sweet! I got 50% sides, 35% back, and I love it. Looks good without attracting the poh-poh.

$129. =)

Btw, I went to National Glass Tinting down in Kensington, MD (not that far from the DC Beltway).

I can get you the discount deal of $129 also (usually $149), so if you're interested, let me know.
