So far I'm NOT impressed with Acura service

I went to the dealer Saturday. I noticed Thursday my brake light on the spolier wasn't working, or the factory 3rd brake light. I also wanted them to adjust the trunk hinge as per the service manual to the higher setting on the torson bar. Since the spolier I have is makeing the lid not stay open. Well........

After telling the service guy about the trunk lid. He said I needed springs. I said I didn't, & showed him the service manual. He didn't want to see it, & said lets see what the tech says. After about an 1 1/2 hours, the guys calls my name out. He says the tech said I needed springs. I tried to show him the manual again, to have them just adjust the bar. He again didn't want to look at it, & said the tech knows what he is talking about & I needed new springs. I asked if they could adjust it to the higher setting anyway, & see how it turns out. He said NO with a really snob attuitude. Ok after that I was a little upset. But I was calm. Now the brake light. He said the tech couldn't make the brake light on the spolier work cause I didn't have the wiring harness. See the spolier I got off of ebay, & it's a knock off. It's not an acura spolier. He showed me a spolier kit, & showed me it came with the springs, & a wire harness for the brake light. I asked if the tech could just splice the wires on my spolier in. He refused again really snoby, like because I didn't get it from them they weren't doing anything on purpose. That's the feeling I got. So I asked them to just make the regular brake light work, & was done. A whole Saturday morning wasted. They said they could order the springs for me at $33 & they will install them for free. I didn't take it. I may at another time. I really am not a happy camper with this dealer right now. I though Acura dealers weren't like this. Sucks!

Which Dealer?

BTW - you live in SFL - don't expect much from dealers. I've never had worse service in general from any business as I do in South FL.

Up here in Orlando, I go to Don Mealey - Steve H is the asst. Mgr and he's awesome - always takes care of me. The other dealer here is Fountain - they're of the "auto mall" variety and IMHO useless for service. I bought my car there due to selection.

Of course, if I were you I wouldn't drive all the hell of the way up here, but YMMV.

Also - I noted a distinct age bias in dealers. When I had to wear a suit in a previous job (traveling consulting), I always got awesome service.

Again - dress for what you want, not what you are. *shrug*

Yeah - I have to say that going to Acura for service is a hit or miss operation both with the service advisor that talks to you and the actual service person who works on the car. I try to get a good service advisor and remember his name so I know he will listen and keep me informed (my only 2 requirements). The worst thing for me is when I tell them there is a service bulletin ... they refuse to look and then they don't get the problem fixed! This happened with the wind deflector deal (rattle and wind resonance noise).

All in all though, compared to other dealers in my area ... Honda and Acura have the best service areas.

So tell me again what the Acura dealer did wrong? You bought an aftermarket spoiler to save some bucks and then expect the Acura dealer to adjust it for you and pull wires for the brake light? If you were willing to pay, the Acura dealer should have helped you - it's their call though since it's a non-factory part and they may not have wanted to be responsible if something went wrong. If you were expecting it done for free, you're way off base.

Why thank you Barryh. But I do expect them to! I am paying for it. I paid them to install the spolier. What bothers me isn't even the whole brake light, or spolier thing. It's the Snob attuitude I got from them. If they wouldn't work on it fine, I'll wire it myself. But I cannot stand for that snob attuitude. And hey $499 for a Acura spolier plus the cost of install I will not pay. I got the spolier already painted for $130. The dealer installed it for $50. That's $180. A savings of over $300. Maybe money grows on trees for you but not some people.

JasonT,

You're absolutely right. If the dealer took on the responsibility of installing it for you they have an obligation to do it right. Good luck.

i second that, they installed it, they should stand behind there work, or at least told you at the time that you should have new stiffer torsion rods and they would have to be ordered or something - and maybe said this light is different than ours, it may take some extra labor to wire it in, they should not have installed the spoiler and shipped the car

Just when I'm getting pissed at the Acura dealer person's attitude I read that. Sounds like it is your fault, not theirs.

Seems like you need those springs.

Is the spoiler installed properly? You didn't mention that it wasn't. So it sounds like they did their job (although if they didn't hook up the third brakelight, they should have done that and I think that is their fault).
The fact that the trunk isn't popping up because you didn't have the right springs, is your fault, IMHO.
