Smoked a hooked up Maxima

I was comming home late last night and these guys in a maxima (what I later find out to be a 96 5-speed w/ intake, y-pipe, and exhaust) pull up next to me and ask me to run. Since it was really late and no one was on the road, i said why not. First time, we went for a 50 mph roll, and gunned it. I immediately started walking him, and he ended up about 1.5-2 car lengths behind my back bumper to ~100 mph. These guys were in shock, and pulled up next to me and wanted to go again. This time we went from a 40 mph roll, and it was the same result. It sounded like evertime he had to shift, I had just hit the sweet spot of VTEC, and he just got burnt.

Anyways, we ended up pulling over and talking. These kids were amazed and asked what I had under the hood. Told them I was basically stock except for a Comptech filter (they couldnt believe it). The kid told me he smoked a CL-S before, and I told him the CL-S driver probably didnt know how to drive since the cars are pretty much the same. He also told me that was the first time he got beat like that, which i thought was pretty funny.

Score another for the TL-S!

Actually he would have less trouble with the 04 Maxima. Not only are they slower than the 02-03 Maxima they are also slower than a 97 Maxima 5-Speed w/ Intake, Exhaust and y-pipe. Remember the 04 max weighs in at a hefty 3485lbs. So 265HP instead of 255HP and that 02 Max weighs 3250lbs. 10HP is not enough to make up 200lbs!!

i took my 04 maxima 5spd auto to the track about two weeks ago, and ran a 14.88 at 94.8 mph in 88 degree weather with 70% humidity, i dont think that says its slower than the 02 and 03s, and the 04 is about 3460 lbs...

Spec v,

That excellent from an Auto Maxima. better than any CLS stock. Have you done a dyno? The CLS has low torque, but 1,000 rpm more.

I gues, you will dyno at 180 lbft and 210 WHP!

thanks alot.. my worst run was a 15.2 with holy god amount of wheel spin.. i was trying to figure out how to launch this car... u cant just nail it right off the line... the first run i nailed it right off the start spun like a mo fo passed the 60ft mark got off the gas back on it and rana 15.1 at 93.7 mph.. than now what i do is brake torqe til about 1800 rpm jump off the brake let the car jump, give the gas a half stab than nail it... its a pain but i get the best times doing that.. maybe if i got a better track and i could nail it right off the start i would do evan better... i never knew an auto would be hard to launch..

I checked with maxima.org all 04 maxima Autos timeslips are at 15.2s and slower. It could be weather and lack of traction...

Good luck!

traction is a huge problem, especialy when i went, i couldnt floor it if i did i just spun and spun... i only ran once 14.88 but i avg 15.1 and 15.2... but i know the car can be consistant 14.9s with good traction and better weather

Nice, but I would say that is TLS/CLS territory. There are many TLS/CLS running high 14s stock...unfortunately I've only gone once and ran a 15.2 @ 92-93 stock in similar conditions to your 14.88 run, but I didn't (nor plan to) brake torque the car.

Spec I tried to find the post over at the org with your results but couldnt for your Aug. 20th track day (I saw your brothers), I do see a bunch of slower times for the 04's although?

yeah he drove it on the 20th i havent posted new times as of yet because everytime i try to post the server is down on the org.. my best yes has been 14.8 but only once. so i might be going friday to see if i can get 14s again.. the launch is very tricky i have to and still am working on it... but low 15s isnt the best for this car it can be a consistant 14 seocnd car i just have to get it there...
