Smoked a GTO!!!

So how many of you right now are about to call BS on this one. Just hold on one second I did smoke a GTO but I didn't say what kind. A Pontiac, not a chance in hell, a Mitsubishi 3000GT with GTO tags, yes!.

This past Saturday I was rolling around looking for someone to play with and I saw this red 3000GT (with GTO tags) playing with some ricey civics and I decided to step up and see what he had. First thing I notice when I pull up next to him, I hear his BOV, oh shit!!. He revs it up and takes off all crazy, suprisingly not impressed one bit. Obviously a this point I know its not a VR-4, it is just a SL with a small turbo, or running really low boost, or not tuned at all. So I pull up next to him I'm in 2nd at about 40 he takes a jump has me about half a car and as soon as I got to about 6500rpm in second I pulled on this guy like nothing, by the time I hit 85 he was a good car and a half behind. And yes he was still on it, and I could hear when he let off, as his BOV whooshed. We did it once more but the same thing happened. As soon as he could he pulled a U-turn and got out of there. I was totally expecting a whoopin.

Later on that night I got lit up, down, sideways, any way you look at it by a '03 Cobra on the highway, oh well.

I am pretty sure only the VR-4 has a turbo on it, not the SL or base GT. But i suppose he could have rigged one up, maybe, I don't know.

3000GT's are 4 seaters??:P

Yeah you're right about the non-VR4 having no turbo. These cars are super heavy. He might have had a small single turbo. He shoulda opted for a bigger one since the VR4's are twin turbo to pull that super heavy car. If he did have a big turbo, no props to him for not tuning it before runnin it.

Good kill!

I am pretty sure he had a turbo on it, the only reason I am saying this is that he had the gauges on the A-Pillar and when I was trying to figure out what model 3000gt it was I noticed that one of them did say Boost. Who knows if it was acutally true though, it wouldn't be the first time I saw someone with a boost gauge and the car was N/A. It was a very nice lookin 3000GT, that's why I was suprised by the lack luster performance.

ok. resident 3000gt owner here (base model)

turbos are only on the vr-4.

you all say that our cars are heavy as shit, but the non vr-4 models are only 3200 pounds.. a little less than the CL .

only the vr-4 weighs 3800 pounds and thats because of the AWD. but then look at the mad fucking power.
the car ran high 13's stock.

my car runs low 15's stock if it were manual. unfortunately i have an auto so i run high 15's stock.

yes we have backseats, if you want to call them that. I just use them to hold my cd case, or my backpack, or purse.. whatever.. its just space so the trunk isnt on me.

ALSO
why the fuck does he have an a-pillar gauge setup? we have three gauges built into the dash, water temp, oil pressure, and volt meter (or turbo if its turbo), he could easily switch them out if he needed.
and GTO badges?
this guy sounds slightly ricey to me

well.. its easy to find out which one it was.. if it was a vr-4 you wouldve been watching the taillights. :P

but in all seriousness.. the panels right behind the drivers and passenger windows will say VR-4 right on them.

you cant hide that unless you replace the panels with non vr-4 panels and.. WHY!?

Also.. look at the stock wheels (not a 100% effective way but..). base model and SL came with 16' rims.. silver and chrome, but really crappy looking.

most vr-4's have 18' chrome wheels stock, because of the brakes.
hope that helps a bit

I know a VR4 when I see one, and there were no VR4 tags, just GTO. The wheels weren't stock. Ricey? All show no go? Seems like it. I know I would get my ass handed to me by a VR4, that's why when he punched it and it wasn't goin anywhere real fast, I knew I could play. I never said it was a VR4 or would I even consider for a heartbeat my stock TL-S could do anything but check the rear license plate number of a VR4.
