Slight upgrade for my MR2...
Just thought I'd share with you guys my next project with my MR2.
I'm going to do an engine swap with a 20 Valve 4AGE 'blacktop'. This engine was never brought to the US, and has only been sold in Japan, South Africa & I believe New Zealand. Toyota used to put them in their nicer cars (remember they don't have Lexus over in Japan, so Toyota has nicer vehicles there.) This engine is from a 1997 Toyota Sprinter Trueno BZ-G. I purchased the half-cut from an importer in Atlanta (one of the things I did there while I was in town for Petit Le Mans). These engines are pretty rare, and I will definitely be the first to transplant it into an MR2 in North America. I haven't heard of anyone else doing it, but there's bound to be someone on the other side of the world that has. The more popular swap is a 20V 'silvertop' which was in the older 93-95 'yotas in Japan, so they are more available in scrap yards.
Anyway, I'll be doing the entire swap in my garage. The engine bolts up mechanically. However, the wiring is the headache of the swap, which is why it's best to buy half the car instead of just the engine. This is definitely the biggest thing I've ever done on a car, so I'm sure it will take me a few months. I'll just be working on it on evenings and free weekends.
Specs on the engine: ~165hp (compared to the 112 I have now), 8400rpm redline, MAP sensor, Quad-Throttle body, VVTi, 30k miles.
And here's the pics of it in my garage. She's going to look so good ones I get her into my '2.

GO BALLZ TO THE WALL, and make your MR2 right hand drive!!!!!
Seriously, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should take care of that front end, someone with a Corolla will want it to swap it out. Kind of like the way the Nissan guys do with their 240's and the Silvia front ends!!!!
Keep us posted on your progress!!!!
PICS, lots of PICS!!!!!

Good luck with all that. I hope you know what you are doing.
But I've got a great source in the MR2 community, the swap is basically the same as a 'silvertop'.
Very Very Cool...although I'm not a big fan of the AW11 chassis, that engine would be fab in a AE86...
Yeah, driftin fun in the AE86 would rock.
