SL500 vs. Me

My buddy and I ended up getting a couple races in on one another finally. He's been wanting to race me for a while now. Anyhow, we had 2 runs from about 50-105. To be fair, I had about a 1/2 car lead on him b4 we punched it. Anyhow, we both take off and stay even (w/ me a 1/2 car in front) until low-mid 3rd gear. At that point (around 80mph or so) I started making a LITTLE bit of distance. Basically, by the end of the race, around 105 or so, I was no more than 1-1.5 cars ahead. Meaning, I pulled on him by 1/2 car - 1 car length, AT max. We did another quick 15-50 mph run and were pretty much even...if I remember correctly. Definitely the best run I've had to date.

the SL600's are the ones that are crazy fast. they have about 200hp more than the 500.

SL500: CW 4k lbs & V8 5L w/305 hp
SL600: CW 4,429 & V12 5.5L w/493 hp

they are heavy and expensive turds.

Nice kill, they are actually 302hp not 305. Not that 3hp really makes a difference, but in such a heavy car weighing in just over 4,000Lbs that 302hp is fairly low. Even with the power I see in my SL you feel the mass of the car. Speaking of, I got a check engine light on my SL today, I'm thinking it might be from sitting all week not running maybe condensation built up in the cat, even with it in the garage? Any ideas? I took it out tonight and got on it pretty good in an attempt to try and blow any build up out of the exhaust, no luck. I have an appointment on Monday for service.

That's absolutely mental!

It's as close as you get to a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 (the 1001hp one).

It's also rumored that the next Murcielago will get a big power upgrade to go after the Veyron's market. Hmm...

hehe I always thought the SL500 were really fast. Although I have never seen a SL65 AMG model on the road yet... I would sure love to see one on the road someday.

I've seen a shitload of SL55's but they're always going granny slow, drive by em and they almost always turn out to be some 50 yr old white lady.

In what model Mercedes? With the ECU I'm planning on ordering the rep I spoke to told me I can expect to see mid-low 11's in 1/4 mile runs. Not to mention their package is rated at 670hp and 840tq in the SL65, so how is your friend seeing higher hp numbers, lower tq, and worse 1/4 times? Did he have trouble on the launch? I know I have trouble with the rear end breaking loose anything over 1/4 throttle even after going 295/25/19 in the back, and that's stock.

he should have been running 11's, but 831 ft/lb of torque is hard to channel through street tires. it's definatly a highway hero.
