Single Exhaust? Thoughts?

Hey guys I am toying with the thought of exhaust for my car and of course want to be different, and would like to get a little power out of it if at all possible.

Anyone ever seen or done a single...maybe 3 inch exhaust on a CL? I am curious as to what it would look like. I don't know if it would look too ricey, especially with a gangster lean if you know what i'm sayin, but i'd like to see one before I buy 2 magnaflow mufflers. Any pictures, thoughts, input, advice on exhaust guys?

Performance wise you'll loose torque but gain power between 5-7k

Theres been a few threads on this, run a search.

It makes me think of those civics who get JDM bumpers and only have only exhaust cut-out filled.

IMO, the CL looks very good with 2 larger sized muffs out the back.

Would you really want to gain power from 5-7k? How much time can you honestly say that you spend that high up in the range?

3" is pretty big for the size of the CL-S' engine. As others have said, you'll be losing torque and power down low to gain just a bit up top.

Teincl's single sounds good. I perfer the dual just because if you have it 2 cut outs might as well use them. I love the thred i saw about the magnaflow cat and dual pipes cumming back to the mufflers. That was some sweet shit.

Yo i found your thread last night after i posted this i really like your exhaust...but i don't know if i'd have the guts to put an N1 on my CL. It does look pretty tasteful IMHO though. I like how you have it coming out at an angle but not pointing up. I was thinking about using one of those round cylinder magnaflow mufflers that look like a thermal muffler (thermal is the best exhaust ever IMO) where the tip is just a little smaller than the muffler, so it would look a little different then an N1.

If doing single exhaust...what would be the best size to use? TeinCL i see you used 2.5, some are saying 3in would be too big and i'd lose some low end in exchange for power from 5K-7K. what about something in between? I mean i used 2.5 inch on my lightly built all motor H22 accord and never felt any power loss (although i removed the balance shaft, had a crank pulley, and an 8LBS flywheel).

Any more thoughts? opinions? thanks guys

Hey I'd like to see that magnaflow dual one, i've used magnaflow on my last 2 cars. Whose car is that?

BTW: where in MD are you?

I'm in Catonsville.
I'll see if i can find that picture..... it may be in the TL section. Basicly he used a magniflow for his cat with 1 cumming in from the headers and then 2 outlets all the way back to the mufflers .... looks sick. I have the link at home, i'll post it pater unless someone else can find it.

i have noticed a slight loss in low end torque with the single outlet setup. however, i love the looks and uniqueness. plus im not ALL about power really. its nice to have, but we do own CL's. i also painted the lower section of my bumper satin black...makes the single outlet look even better IMO. and like everyones said, i have noticed a little more power higher end with it. the design would work a little better with headers obviously. id end up goin with 2.5 or 3.

Sorry guys. I think you are messing up a perfect looking exhaust setup. This isn't a civic.

TeinCL i think that looks pretty hot. Its definitly different. The N1 has always been a little big for me. You did a good job with painting that lower part of the bumper, too.

I don't think its messing up a good exhaust already. think of how many V6 cars out there only have a one muffler system. The s2000 has a dual muffler system like ours and it looks 10 times better with a single exhaust system. I just think people aren't used to seeing this. Its not like this car has a real dual exhaust or a V8 or something.

Anyway, i still haven't decided what to do. I found a company that still sells Apexi WS for the 01-02 CL and i assume that will fit the 03 as well. I always like the tone of that but can't seem to find a clip with a CL with one. The Apexi is only like $530 too!! I could easily spend that much making my own.

I really like that painted bottom. I'll have to take a look at doing that. And you rims are Effen hot!

As far as the single out, I think I like it? Does not look bad.

I just got a new welder and was thinking about going to a single Borla muffler with 2.75 inch from the cat. Then just have a single out. Just trying to figure out what to do with the other cutout. Might put a fake tip to match the real one. You wouldt not even know it was inop.

Here are the tips I'm going to use.

As for commenting on the single outlet, I say go for it. I've got a TRUST full titanium exhaust system on the way thats intended for an Evo, but will make the neccessary modifications to make it fit on my TL.

Not to mention you can save money by only having to find a universal muffler of any sort.

you probably won't lose power with exhaust 2.75, or 3 inch piping. Maybe a little bottom end torque.

Those tips are hot, but i think they would look better on a dual setup. For the single, I think something more round like the N1 or some other round-tip magnaflow would look better.
