The M5 lip is the way to go...Looks like it was meant to be on the car.

Not sure I have never seen an M3 spoiler on a CL. BTW if you are gonna get the spoiler then it is a good idea to get a real M5 spoiler. I would stay away from the replicas.

Our margins are so much higher on the replicas, yet we steer people away from them whenever possible. They're just so flimsy compared to the real thing.

Anyway, the difference between the M3 and M5 spoiler is very, very minimal. The M3 spoiler is about an inch shorter then the M5. Width is pretty much dead even.

inch shorter in length? does that mean one fits the trunk perfect, and the other hangs off. can anyone do a side by side version of the 2 just to see?

How do you get the M5 spoiler to be painted to match exactly? Did you have a body shop do it? My CLS is silver as well, and Im thinking about getting the M5 spoiler (in my opinion, the Acura spoiler is just not right for the car - its form is way off).

Also - is the M5 spoiler easy to install?

Thanks!

I had a bodyshop paint mine. Just gave them the paintcode for my car (which is on your door jamb or you can contact your dealer) and they matched it perfectly.

Installation should take less then 15 min......

Nope, it pretty much means the M3 is about a 1/2" shorter on each side... but both fit the trunk pretty well. The M5 being a bit longer comes a bit closer to the edges of the trunk, but if you were to see one CL with the M5 and another with the M3 you wouldn't be able to tell which is which.

You can install it yourself, although if you are taking it to a body shop to be painted, they couldn't charge you more than a couple bucks more to put it on. It takes 10 minutes max to line it all up. Cost me $50 for the paint/install.

I did a bunch of research on both this site and the BMW sites and what I found was that most of the people had OEM M5 spoiler. I found a story about a guy who bought both the replica for about 50 bucks on ebay and the real thing for about 150 from BMW. He compared them side by side and found that the replica required some work (sanding and what not) before he could ge it painted and mounted. The M5 lip comes primed and ready to be painted. I was back and fourth about it for a long time...but decided that you get what you pay for and why skimp 100 bucks on a 32K (words from Juniorbean) car. I bought the M5 Spoiler and I am very happy with my purchase. The hardest part of the whole experince was getting up the courage to stick the dam thing on and Hope that it is straight (boy was that stressful).

^ The reason I asked is because I have the replica spoiler and had no problems with sanding and what not prior to the install. It has been on for almost a year no with no problems and looks perfect.
