Side airbag light.....

starting acting funny. I started blinking slow, like it would go on for a second then go off for a second. It will do this 4 or 5 times then stop. I didn't happen again till tonight, it started about 4 days ago. Any ideas? I am going to take it to walker acura to see if they can look at it, but I know what they are going to say. We don't know what it is unless its doing it. Thanks

Does it do it when a person is in the right passanger seat? If so, then it is normal and if not then you need it checked.

There is a sensor that detects the position of the passanger and if they are not dead center on the seat it will turn on indicating that the side airbags are off.

Hope this helps with the problem.

haha-yeah, i was told by the dealer that this was 'normal' and can be recreated by having the passenger lean on the side bolsters of the seat. something about it pushing on an airbag sensor. give it a shot at the dealer and tell us if you get anywhere.
even tho it sounds kinda harmless, i find it kind of embarassing. do bimmers, lexii or benzes have this kind of trouble??

It can be any thing in the passanger seat
Mine does it when i have my leather jacket or breifcase or some times any thing that conducts like the human skin and or heats.

and I think my dads Bimmer does it, not sure about the Lexus i'll look next time i'm in my mom's car.

From what I know, the seat has sensors. If the sensors detect weight on the bottom but not the back, that light would go on. You can test it by having a passenger sitting straight up w/o touching the back supporter.

There was some one sitting there both times...interesting. I will have to check that out. Is it only on the passengers side or will the drivers side make it blink as well. It BLINKS right...its not just supposed to come on and stay on till the passenger sits right again?? Thanks everyone....dam I love this board!

if someone leans against the door/side bolster the light will remain on (from my experience). if the person sits properly the light disappears after a few seconds.
