Should I spray bug repellent in my mirrors?

I started noticing wood ants on my dash. then I saw them on my outside mirror. Apparently an ant colony took up residence in my outside mirror. I noticed it when I was waxing the car. All I had was some NXT spray wax and I sprayed it behind the glass and banged on the mirror to knock out ants. Lots and lots of ants. eggs, babies, adults, flyers.
Finally got to a hose and sprayed it out good. I was afraid they'd set up inside the car but they didn't.
I think they came from work where I park under the same trees everyday. Should I spray bug repellent in my mirrors?

I would just use some high pressure water and spray em out. Just go to one of those do it yourself car washes with the pressure sprayers.

4 to 8 hours a day at work. Depends if I go out for lunch in it. I guess I could have gotten them at home, but it's a covered concrete parking area.

i had them in the storm door in my last home. the core of the door was an insulating material called polyisocyan-something-something. apparently the ants like to nest in it better than dirt. i suspect you have them in some of the insulating materials of the doors, dash, carpet, whatever.

with the storm door i called the manufacturer & since it had a lifetime warranty they just replaced the entire door for free. i don't suspect acura will be willing to give you a new car due to ant infestation though.

you might be able to use a "bug bomb". this is a homeowner insect fumigation canister you can get at the grocery store. don't use it in the car w/ the windows closed. put the car in the garage, close the garage & house doors, open the car windows, hood, & trunk. pull fuses or disconnect the battery to keep the courtesy lights from killing the battery. set off the bomb. you might also want to contact the bug bomb manufacturer (web site or 1-800 #) and ask about reactions w/ auto chemicals. i wouldn't suspect any. i've used it in the garage before but without the cars in it.

the only problem it may cause is a film on the interior windows. i've used the bombs in the house a bunch of times. i haven't gotten any film residue, but you never know. they seem to kill all the bugs that choose to remain in the house.

its worth a try.

I'd say the nest was definitely inside exterior mirror housing. Haven't seen any more ants since I cleaned out the mirror. I'm hoping the issue is fixed, just thought I might do some preventative if they want to come back.
