I'm looking at doing the same thing as you. PRetty much the same situation. I'd need to save $ so my monthly payments aren't like $600.

I have a better idea--

Wait until November (and save a few more dollars) and buy yourself a nice, new Infiniti G35 Coupe.

You'll have:

More HP
Nicer styling
6 speed tranny driving the REAR wheels
Pop-up DVD Navi screen
18" wheels
Brembo brakes

Sorry to hijack this thread, but you should definitely consider this car. It is simply beautiful.

You think the ass is too big? I like it.

How often does it snow where you live? Here in NY, we got a whopping 2-3 inches of snow last winter. I'd trade off the possibility of bad snow traction (even if it is only 2 or 3 days per year that you have to worry about that) for the superior handling/feel of rear wheel drive.

What is the sticker price of a manual CL-S Navi? I thougt it was around the same, no? $33-34K?

Pricing hasn't been announced yet for the G35 Coupe, but they did say it will start under $30K. But I'g guess that a fully loaded version will probably top $35K. Small price difference to pay for a better car

Zapata, I am in Bucks County (levittown), north of philly. Yeah i am trying to save so my payments arent through the roof.

As far as the G35C, it looks like an awesome car but the price of the cl is just hitting the roof. Couldnt afford it with all the options.

You could cut out the Navi and save $2K. Spoiler you could always add on later.

If you are going to get the CL-S, get the 6 speed. I traded im my gold '02 for a red 6 speed just for the hand brake and the LSD. but the auto is also a very good car!

He'll have to save up more than "a few more dollars", and as he said money is an issue, so it doesn't seem like a good candidate.

Also, on the "More HP"--not doubting you here, but have they given an official figure? The sedan is 260, and I know there is word that it might be 275-280, but an Infiniti guy told me they said the same thing about the sedan, up until it shipped at 260.

Well, I don't think anything is official yet, but Infiniti says the coupe will start under $30K.

As for the horsepower issue....

The coupe is a very close cousin to the 350Z and it is very likely to have identicle HP rating. Don't expect the coupe to be rated at 260 HP. The number I have heard is 287. But we'll see.......

The Infiniti Coupe looks pretty sharp -but one thing I noticed is the 19/24 MPG spec.

That's one of the many things I love about my CL - 19/29 MPG is great for a 260 HP plant. Believe me that 5 MPG adds up to some serious $$ savings over time.

Just a thought

Yeah you make some good points. It really depends how often it snows. Some years it's bad and some years it's not so bad. What i worry about is the ICE we often get. I don't like to box myself in with a decision, I LOVE options and g35 as awesome as a car as it is would limit my ability to drive in an emergency.

Ass is a bit big Don't get me wrong it's an awesome car!!! Engine is nice, navi, leather etc.,

Uh huh, just the the 330ci is $35k and change. Or more precisely, how the G35 sedan is $28,950. To get it with the options that come standard with a CL-S, add the $2200 premium package, $600 winter package (but that also adds a full-size spare with alloy), $425 sport suspension, $550 xenon headlights. That's another $5320. Add $2k if you want navi. And of course the thing about cars with options, it may be hard to find one with just the options you want and not a few extra. I wasn't interested in navi, and looking at the dealer at G35 sedans (only interested in coupe though)--it looked like, *if* I could find one with a few less options to get it closer to what I wanted, it would be about $36k sticker.

I'm not saying that's outrageous--looks like the G35 is a nice car (steering is goofy, interior mixed bag), and reasonable for the money. The guy that started this thread was a bit tight on cash for the CL-S down payment, so waiting for the G35 coupe at more money doesn't seem like an option.

Did you ever stop to think that some people may not want the options that are standard on the CL-S?

Not everybody wants a loaded car. Maybe that is a mistake on Acura's part..... they just might have sold a few more of them if they would have offered the CL-S at a cheaper price and less standard equipment.

If the rumors are true, Acura will be putting the axe on the CL soon. It makes you wonder if they should have done it differently all along.....

That's a stretch man. Are you kidding me?? People didn't buy the CLS because it costs too much because of the options? That would fly in the face of 90% of the members on this board. CLS is/was the best bang for the buck out there. CLS w/o heated seats, mirror, auto down mirror etc., would be an accord coupe or a CLP. CLS didn't sell because as a luxo sports coupe there wasn't a manual and I don't think Acura could've foreseen the younger crowd getting into the car.

Are you kidding me? Now that there IS A CL-S manual tran, I don't see CL-S sales flying off the chart, do you?

The CL-S doesn't sell for a number of reasons. I just think that if buyers at least had the option of spending less money (for less standard equipment), they might have sold more.

This is the way it's been done for years. Wake up and look around-- BMW lets you configure your new car exactly the way you want. A 3 series could cost low 30's to high 40's. But at least you have a choice. Acura gives you NO CHOICE (except for the Navi) and requires you to pay a for standard equipment that would have been optional on other cars.

If the CL-S were stronger in other areas, they might have been able to get away with it. Unfortunately, the competition is too good and Acura is suffering now.

I agree with Tom2. I am trying to make up my mind and it would much easier if I did not have to have a sunroof and heated seats and perforated leather. I would rather pay a few thousand less and not have those options. Many have rejected the CLS because of headroom (with the sunroof) issues. I think only offering a "loaded" car does turn away some buyers.
For a few years they gave you a sunroof but no manual tranny. Bad choices.

Dude please. I'm just comparing apples to apples the best I can. The G35 is cool. But it costs a chunk more, that's all I'm saying. We could also say that someone might be happy with a non-Type-S CL, or that an RSX might do. Sure someone might like the base G35.

As an aside, I'd be interested to see how easy it would be to get a base model, at least anytime near the intro date. Not saying I don't think it's possible, just wondering.
