should i buy an 03 CLS-Auto

Hey guys, just wanted everyones opinion on buying an 03 CLS-Auto from a local dealership in Toronto. The car currently has only 60,000 KM (Around 45 thousand Miles) and is silver on black. The dealership is also offering a 1 year 20,000km warranty with it as well. What do you guys think?

I know that the Auto's have tranny problems, but I want one badly and I have to buy an auto since my girl only drives auto.

Please be honest with your responses.

Thanks!

the price is really good there asking for 9 grand, which is really good. I am just worried that its going to cost a lot in maintenance.

its pretty cheap to maintain. not much breaks on it except for the 4k tranny of course.

before buying the car, run the VIN thru acura to see if your car is covered under the tranny warranty extention.

make sure the tranny shifts smoothly thru all the gears when you test drive it.

Mileage is okay. It's no civic and it needs premium fuel. Try and get some sort of warranty on the tranny if you can.

to be honest, i wouldn't buy any honda/acura v6 auto that was affected by the recall. i just don't have the time/money to be rebuilding tranny's. again, that's just me

^ That's true too. I personally would not buy an auto CL knowing that there are tranny problems. Why not look at an accord V6.

or why not look for a 6 speed cl, I have 130k miles on mine, no problems whatsoever, brakes are easy to change, and so is oil.

and the cl has better interior than an accord.

I bought mine a year and a half ago. 03 cls 5at. i just hit 101 k miles, and previous service records indicate no tranny issues/replacements. Car runs great, not problems. just put front brakes on, and did plugs ~5 k miles ago. its cheap to maintain, reliable.

My 03 CL-S was not affected by the recall and after a year of driving it, I've had no problems with the transmission. Pretty fun car to drive, I really don't regret my purchase. My car wasn't a part of the recall, so I don't think my trans had the same defect. Auto transmissions tend to crap out on you a couple times during the vehicle's life, regardless of what make or model it is...

But through my dealer I got an extended warranty, covers the transmission (and most anything else) so I'm covered for the next couple years  It cost about as much as it would to get the trans repaired, but it covers near everything. If I were you I'd try to look into something like that.

For 9k I personally would be a bit suspicious. Again, I bought my 03 CL-S last year, had about 70k miles on it and I got it for about $13k it was in pretty great shape, and I'm certain the last owner took good care of it. I checked KBB and I don't think I got ripped off that much, ha :P But yeah, for a 03 CL-S for 9k, I'd personally double check the carfax or any info you can get on the car. You never know, it may have been in an accident, had body work done, etc.

found one I really like going to see it today

I ended up going to the dealership for the 9 grand 03 CL-S AT, the place was shady so obviously I backed off. I have been looking for a car for the past few weeks and I havent had any luck so far except for yesterday. I found one 03 CL-S AT this one has only 60,000 KM (about 40-45K Miles). I also found a 03 CL-S Manual for about the same price but with 120,000 KM (75K Miles) I have pasted the links in this thread so you guys can take a look at the cars and tell me what you think based on the price and condition and which one would be a better buy.

I would go with the stick one. Looks like the car is better taken care of, and you will not have to worry bout the tranny.

Get the manual for sure. Actually i might know the previous owner of that car. He took very good care of it. Traded it in and got an M3.
