i have a neuspeed, abut 2 year old or so. Don't remember much about it, one of those mods you get, become used to and never think about again.

Neuspeed is the only one made and it isn't a true SS. It's just a bracket that relocates the cable. It does do a good job of shortening the throws.

It shortens the throw, what else do you expect it to do?

A true short shifter would be a shorter shift lever like what Comptech makes for the 3rd Gen TL.

That piece actually lowers the height of the shifter the bracket on our cars shortens the throw.

Anything that shortens the distance the knob must be moved to change gears is a "short shifter". Whether it does that by changing the pivot point or shortening the shaft makes no difference.

Just by going to a S2000 knob, the shifter is around .75" - 1" lower which effectively shortened teh shift.

How do you like the kit Smitty? Is the install pretty straightforward/easy?

I have it as well and it's nice. That with the Momo shift knob it's pretty short. It shortens the throws forward and back.

I think autocarparts.com has it for around $80. You can get it direct from Neuspeed for $90.

I might as well jump into this mod......is the installation straight forward guys? I got the Mugen S2000 Shift knob and hoping that it would be a great setup for short throws

NiteQwill's shifter is super-ultra-mega short, compaired to all the other's. Did he cut his?

Is it actully shorter, or am I imagining things again?

^ Mine is that short with the MOMO knob. The Neuspeed bracket doesn't affect the height of the shifter!

Uh huh

Anything lower than the Momo knob or the S2000 knob maybe would be too low IMO. My wrist would hit the parking brake when shifting into 6th.

Right on the money Steve. I think those knobs are optimal.

I bought the SS kit and decided not to install it. I think the stock shifter is short enough, and I didnt really want to drill into the stock stuff. Also, the S2k knob is nice & weighty, bit the bright silver looked a little out of place next to the dull silver trim, and you have to do a little fabbing to get the boot to look right.

I don't mind the look of the S2000 knob. It adds a nice feel and the boot is easy enough to attach w/ a couple of wire tie straps placed appropriately.

IMO its just a little too small, but thats cool you like it. I never miss a gear so I dont feel the need for the shorter shift, its sometimes nice to have the smooth stock shifter after coming from my notchy as hell, high effort shifter in my mustang.

I have a Team VooDoo shift knob... the weight is just perfect and the shorter height decreases the length of the throws. IMO, I think it is just perfect.

Here are closeups of the shots posted above:

Thanks, Dustin. I guess I was imagining things. When I was test driving a CLS6 a few months ago, the shift seemed so damn long. I guess it was the very tall knob.

I put on the TSX 6MT knob. It improved the shift feel, lowered the height, and added some good weight. (The stock CLs knob is taller and lightweight plastic). THe TSX knob is just like the older S2000 knob and has the exact match perforated black leather and the shift pattern is red. I'm considering adding a shortshift kit.

Some pix, not a good closeup,
I fixed the boot!

What kind of short shifter are you going to get? I have the same car and i have been looking for a short shift kit for a while. I have only been able to find just the adapter by Neuspeed, not the whole kit. Is that all that is made for our car??

The Team Voodoo knob is the best you can get.......
Its the heaviest and shortest I don't have one yet, but its on the list. The extra weight helps for more positive shifts.

Plus you can get a leather booty for it, so its not cold in the winter :ghey:

I had the Nuespeed kit on my old 6 speed. It was ok. I felt it made the gear engagement more notchy & had less of a smooth feel to them. Maybe it was just my car. I also got it when it was $50. I wouldn't spend more then that on it now.

What exacxtly did you do to the shift boot to make it look right with the TSX knob? That knob looks great, I may pick 1 up.

Thanks fuzzy, it's a perfect match. I put a rubber washer/o-ring on the stem under the boot to position it firmly but there are probably lots of alternatives that could improve the look, the chrome plastic ring on the top of the boot would look better completely removed but that would be more extensive than I wanted to do. Now it sits flush and tight under the knob. I was gonna get a JDM Honda boot with red stitching too but never did.

Look at the previous page to see what I did. We actually both did the same thing.
