Shift Knob Question...

Hey everyone, I know shift knobs have been covered over and over again on this forum, but for some reason i can't get the search feature to be forum specific, and im getting a whole bunch of for sale threads when I search.

Anywho... Does anyone know if this knob will fit my 03 6 spd??? It's for a Honda 6 speed tranny, so I am assuming the threads will be the same. Has anyone had good experience with "Skunk" brand knobs, and will the 440 gram weight give me a smoother/solid feeling throw???

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SKUNK...spagenameZWDVW

That is the link to the Ebay auction I am looking at, but to be honest, I have not made up my mind completely about which knob to go with... I couldn't find any of the 3rd Gen TL knobs on Ebay, and I know a lot of the users have those on their 6-spds.

Will I need to do anything special to get the knob seperated from the shift boot? I tried unscrewing it, but it seems clipped in somehow. What kinds of knobs are you guys running and which ones will matte up well w/the boot and not look out of place or goofy? Thanks for your responses in advance, any help is appreciated...

Can you post pics of your knobs too?

The nicest looking shift knob that ive seen by far is the 07'-08' TL Type-S 6spd knob. Its really hot and goes wit the interior if you have the titanium trim. You have to pull the boot down a little bit by taking off a clip that is right under the knob that holds the knob to the boot. after you pull the boot down you just twist off the old and twist on the new.

I think posting a pic of my knob is alittle personal, dont ya think?

Here's mine. I did the boot to match the leather on the knob.

Also, just about all Honda shift knobs are interchangable.

It's fairly easy to install a shift knob.
I got a OEM TL-S shift knob and I think it looks good. I wouldn't buy a Skunk2 shift knob for our CLs. I would stick to the OEM TL knobs. You can get a new one off one of those OEM Acura parts site. That's where I got mine but I forgot which one.

The Skunk knob will fit and it will look rather nice with a little extra modification.

As mentioned before pull (push) down on the boot by grabbing the stiff collar just below your shift knob.

To make the Skunk knob look good, you will have to lift off the boot. Once you have done that, turn it inside out. There is a little zip tie that holds that plastic collar on to the leather boot. If you cut that tie (carefully as to not cut the boot itself) you can slide the collar out.

What I did next (I have 2 knobs, a TSX one and an accessory one from a RSX both very similar in design to the skunk) was put the boot back down but don't lock it in, twist on the knob and tighten the set screw so the knob is tight. Then pull the boot back up so it is inside out and put a zip tie around it (just below the shift knob) so the you have the top 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of leather tied relatively tight , but a little loose as well, to the shifter bar and trim the excess piece of zip tie. Now pull the boot back down (right side out) and lock it into place.

Essentially you will have the leather come up from the console and turned back in on itself just below the shift knob so the shift bar won't be exposed.

I'd post pics for you but I don't have any right now and my car in in NH and I'm in MA with a broken leg so I can't get my car back home right now. Trust me though, it will look very nice. I you don't want to go through the process I explained, go with a TL shift knob 04 or up, it will lock into the existing collar and you won't have to do the extra mod.

After I did this on my car, I did it for my buddy on his 06 RSX when he installed the exact knob you are looking at. It is very heavy and leads to very smooth positive feeling shifts.

That TLS knob looks really high. The TLS console is sunk in ours isn't.

I don't think that's a TLS knob. The CL 6MT has a really tall knob as it is if the OP goes with the skunk knob which is similar in dimensions to the TSX/S2000 knob it will be like getting a short shift kit.

thanks for the info bro! I get what your saying on how to get the boot to stay flush up with the knob, that sounds like it wont be too tough. Thanks!

Momo knob and boot... and by lowering the height of the knob you shorten the length of the throw. While you're at it add a Neuspeed short shift adapter as well.

It's actually a piece of cake, I was having a hard time of explaining it with words and no pictures. On a side note, i just got my car back home but I'm not staying at my home right now either buuuuut, I can probably get some pics in the next couple of days to show what I'm talking about and give you an idea how it will really look. That skunk knob is almost identical to my accessory RSX knob except the skunk knob is substantially heavier.

I say buy it now, you'll be happy with it in the long run not to mention it will lower you total shifter height by about an inch.

If you're talking about my knob, it isn't a TL knob. It's an 08 Accord 6spd knob. It may look tall, but I do alot of driving and having it that high lets me keep my arm on the arm rest comfortably.

I was just thinking about this. I ordered one about 2 weeks ago and they said it would be on back order for about 3 weeks. I just googled it and went with the cheapest place which worked out to about $80 with shipping.

The stock CL knob is made by Momo so I thought I'd just stay with that brand plus the boot/knob work together so it looks stock. The short shifter... just search on the net. I love it... best mod I've done (not that I've done many). I wanted the 04/05 NSX shift knob but it's $450!

since your smr you should really think of getting the tsx knob...it has the red lettering...I have it and its great plush it has the preforated leather around it...

i bought this off a member a while ago...

I did fix it after that pic...i was just in a rush that day...

But either knob you pick will look good its all personal taste...and the install is easy "Forgetaboutit"
