On a custom manifold the only thing that is machined are the flanges and possibly an adapter for an external wastegate.

Um actually you are wrong.
The few kits that are in existence were based of Comptech headers. They weren't created from scratch.

Because the turbo systems produced haven't been some top secret operation. Pictures and information have been shared for 4+ years now. There's enough information and pictures on this forum that if anyone wanted to turbo their car it could be accomplished.
