September Car and Driver, 4 cylinders...
Alright, I admit these cars are highly modded. 16 cars rated, but they are all four cylinders.
The cheapest of the group was a$34,770 Ford focus putting out 300 bhp and 230 ft.lb of torque.
The expensive one was an EIGHTY SIX THOUSAND, SIX HUNDRED FIFTY FIVE $ Subaru WRX(!) at 450 horses and the torque at 410.
The winner of the whole shebang was a$68,386 Honda S2000. 122 cid/2 liters, blown
13.3 @108 mph. Amazing what you can do if you have cubic dollars.

Looks like the front drivers had traction problems. Most had trap speeds 104-109 but were only running mid 14s.
I picked up a Grassroots Motorsports mag and they had a $2000 Omni GLH running 11.629 1/4 in their $2003 Challange. It's a pretty good read. Many fast beaters.

These cars were all rated for roadability also. Although some were a little rough, this was no "strip the interior and the paint off the car", by no means.
There were two classes. FWD only (10), and RWD/AWD (6).
Either way, an Acura RSX-S won FWD, and the S 2000 won the other. So, at least we did very well.
