i think the company that built it was called 5 axis, they where featured on the new car show, on TLC called Rides. they were working on the real life sized hotwheels car for SEMA. they give new meaning to the word skilled...

very skilled. however, they apparently have no plans of producing that kit : (

even though I'm sure I'm not the only one on this site that doesn't have a body kit on their car because there aren't any GOOD LOOKING ones out .. I'm sure hundreds would buy that sema kit. I know I would.

There just aren't enough CL-S owners for it to be worth it for them to make. Especially with the CL dead. They would probably sale hundred not hundreds.

you think? Theres like 14,000 members on this board .. I'd think they could drum up a couple hundred sales from a very good looking body kit like that.

EDIT: actually I just checked .. 15,386 members.

Not true.

Problem is, the same shops try to make the same crap-style kits for our car that they make for a Nissan Sentra...etc.

For a more sophisticated car, you need a more sophisticated kit. No fiberglass, No rally lights(JT)...

Just some elegant lines to enhance, not hide, our cars good looks.

I'm not a big "bodykit" kinda guy, but the SEMA CL kit is so nice I couldnt turn it down. We should start a petition or submit the design to a bodykit maker and see if they can replicate the kit.

Underground is WHACK.

Another problem is companies want a guaranteed audience before they make the kit...but, if you don't know what it'll look like---nobody is gonna pay. Catch 22.

They want almost $1200 CAD for that fibreglass crap...that's almost $900 USD

I shudder at the thought there are CL's out there with this "EvO" kit on. How come very few of these owners come on A-CL.com???

Because THEY are WHACK too...HA!!! We don't have too many whack-O Cl owners here...

do we?

:P

I cringe when I see an EVO kit hooked to a CL on one of those sites. With those humongous rally lights....

Do a search... there was a whole GB on this thing. Hundreds of people were interested.... Adam got a company involved, setup the whole thing... then, when the pricing came through and it came time to collect deposits, there were less then 10 interested (not sure of the exact number, but it was rediculously low). This is the same one Chris is referring to above, but those are some of the details

So.. bottom line... it was close... but no one wanted to pay for it when it came time... so the whole deal was squashed. So if you want a kit it's either one of the ricey kits, customizing a TL kit, or find a Versus kit.

Yeah the Underground thing was a joke from the start...

Then we(Ahmad & I) did the Versus GB...which was nearly the same fiasco...We sold 10 kits & I bought the other 10(then another 5). I have gotten some serious responses(finally) from Versus about doing a new front lip. Problem is, I have no drafting software to do quality pics...so, until I can give Versus a 3D design(or close to it), we won't have much to talk about.

I don't know if this will help but I'm in a 3d animation program. My area of expertise is modelling. The software package that I use is SoftImage XSI.

If you can provide me with sketches of how you envision the front lip, I can model it out for you in 3d. The only limitation with this package is that it is geared towards video games and tv/movies so it does not have real-world measurements(ie. inches, cm etc)...it has measurements with increments of 1 unit only.

The problem is drawing it freehand...getting both sides/measurements equal. I've downloaded a couple free copies of drafting software, but it always turns out too damn complicated to use.

Allen, let me try something on paper & maybe I can scan it in & email it to you.

Chris,
Honestly the only downfall to the versus kit is the front lip. Side skirts and rear is fine. I think the only way you are going to get a goodlooking front end out of a CL kit is if you replace the whole bumper, like on the SEMA kit.Do you think they would be willing to make a whole bumper instead of a lip?? Would it be possible for someone to make some 3d sketches off pictures of the SEMA kit?

chris,

i gotta say. i like your enthusiasm for the kit (s). That you have had since all this started. I was gonna buy the Versus kit just because you were so gung ho about it . I think if we can just figure out a TL type of kit for our cars that would be perfect.

With this particular software package, you don't really need measurements...it's helpful, but it isn't required. There's a technique called rotoscoping. Basically, I can import a picture into it and model right over the picture. It can be done with the front view window, right view window or top view window.

To make it even easier and to make sure both sides are equal in measurement, I can just model one half, duplicate, reverse the duplicate and merge the two halves together resulting in a perfectly symmetrical model.

Sounds like a hell of a program .. I wish I knew how to operate something like that. Hopefully Chris can come up with a sketch and we can get something to send to Versus .. I'm getting excited now!

NOW WE'RE COOKIN...this sounds just like what I need to get my pics to work. I have 2 or 3 different lips drawn at work...let me round them up & I'll send them to you.

I hear you on the lip re-do...my thought is that replacing the whole front clip would be A) expensive B) probably relagate us to FGlass( ) C) rather complicated. I like the idea of course, but it's just alltogether an easier install with the slip-on lip.

With that being said...I'm sure there is a way to taper the top of the lip to blend better...and still retain the bolt-on look of the sides & back. Afterall, we can't have a blended front clip & 2 stick-on pieces...might look tacky. But I do believe we can taper it enough to lend a look of the SEMA kit. Maybe bring it up a bit higher around the fogs...raise the angle so it doesn't protrude as much, etc.

I think we have a better chance of getting a new lip made, than trying to duplicate the whole SEMA kit...really, realistically...who here has the $5K for paintwork to get that kit installed...bit of a difference from that & $500 kit & $500 install.

I think we can do it.

Guys, feel free to draw some shit up...the more the merrier.

First off, I don't know how to draw a staright line in PS, so it looks a bit scarey. Don't hate on the lack of PS skill :pfawk:

But, with some drafting love, it'll definitely give you a better idea of what I'm trying to do. I have other ideas too...
