Selling car in one state - titled in another
Not sure if anyone can help here....
I'm moving to Seattle tomorrow morning. My car is being transported today. 18 days to get up there - what a scam!
Anyway, does anyone know if it's possible (and legal!) for me to sell my Acura in Washington State if the car is titled in Texas?
Refer to my other thread about the flood damage: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...hreadid=122898
Washington doesn't have state income tax but they have RIDICULOUS registration/titling fees. It will be approx. $450 to register and title my car up there and then turn around and sell it. Would rather not have to pay that if it's legal for me to sell it while titled in Texas.
By the way, I don't think it's possible for me to sell it in Texas since I won't be coming back here.
Thanks,
Rob

yeah you can buy or sell a car that is registered in a different state. The buyer will just fill out paperwork and pay sales taxes and reg. fees for the state they are registering it in and they wil be issued a new title for that state.

Check with the Wa. State DMV website (RMV, BMV or whatever they call the registry up there).
I know that here in MA there are very clear on what it takes to buy a car with an out of state title.
Shouldn't be a problem, but you're smart to be looking into it before you head up there.

Yeah, I've done all the research I can so far. Their website is pretty useless in terms of selling a car titled in another state.
I believe I have 30 days to drive it before registering it.

It is not a problem. I just purchased a motorcycle trailer with CA plates/title. Just paid the bucks and they issue new plates/title.
The new owner will simply have to do that.
With a car, they may need an inspection which is no big deal.

Welcome (soon) to Seattle. I recently moved here from Virginia and I agree with you about the hastle related to titling your car in WA. I'm still waiting to get a faxed copy of the title because you have to have this to go into the DMV. It's almost like Washington State doesn't want you to register your out of state car with them (just buy a new one in-state). Plus I'd have monorail tax on 2 cars that sit in a garage. Its a joke.

That monorail tax, what a joke!
bl^5 - I have no clue. I called Geico about it and they said they don't notify the state about the flood. I'm wondering who does and how the state figures out the car was flooded?
Is a car considered flood recovered if the engine didn't take in water and only some of the interior was damaged?
I'm hoping like hell they don't put flood damaged on my title.
