Nothing yet as I have been very busy lately. But I may have an inroad though.

I will be at a meeting soon at a well known cam company to do an automated valve spring test and sorting system. This will be to sort NASCAR valve springs automatically based on the load versus displacement values. The automation portion is confirmed, we just need to decide on the machine design.

That company happens to be Comp Cams and in breif discussions they said they could grind whatever if I provided specs. The question is, what specs to grind?? That I hope to enlist their help once the project is underway. I will obviously need a stock cam which I will try to source from salvage (anyone know any good salvage lots or on-line sites??) I hope I can get them to profile it and then discuss a better profile. I'll probably only touch the hot lobe though.

Even if they can't do it I hope to gain enough insight to make the process easier.

No luck with cams on that site.

Yea, I was considering the low RPM lobes and will continue to do so. Obviously idle/cruise quality and emissions are important which will take more research.

Focusing on the hot lobe is much easier.

I just need to set up the dyno session and test this prototype out. The problem is that my car cannot be used and there is no one local who can. I have an offer from a Nashville member but I hate to have him drive 4 hours one way for 1 hour of testing.

I don't think that would be an accurate reading of what most people would experience.

It is not just that as mentioned, but it is also the problem that this is just a conceptual item to test a theory. It isn't close to a final version. It should lose power below 4k revs but hopefully gain it back up top and plus some. The later versions will include methods to gain torque throughout.

Once a final design is determine and tested I will definitely be shipping a few units out to be tested by others.

Add me to that list, I would be more than happy to install and dyno.

BTW, what does the install consist of for the RES plate? Is it an easy DIY?

About ten bolts and five minutes on the very top of the engine.

Welp, back to the drawing board....

Thanks for AcuraCl1 for helping out and providing his car. But it turned out to be a waste in several respects. The plate did nothing for top end power gains. The curve was basically the same from about 4500 RPM on up. Below 4k revs the power was down as expected but I wasn't concerned about that; I was focused on top end power for this step.

But no, power was nearly the same at the higher revs. I will now try and see where it is not working and decide on the next course of action, if any.

In other news, the E-Manage test never commenced. The car started up just fine with it hooked up and no codes. But once on the rollers for a base run it made only 146 WHP. I'm pretty sure something is up with the harness and unfortunately I didn't have the other one with me.

The fuel looked fine as did all other parameters so I such that once of the ignition I/O wasn't connected fine. I checked it after the fact and it appears that some of the pins were not fully seated in the harness. If one of the cylinders was not firing I would expect a similar drop in power. I'll have to retest this later.

Sucks to see the RES didn't work out as planned, many people are anxiously awaiting this modification.

But OTOH, part of me is glad the RES didn't work out... I gotta stop spending money on mods
