Saying HI

Just wanted to Say Hi to everyone and say you've got a great board going here. A buddy of mine picked up an 03 CL Type-S about a year ago and I've falled in love with the damn thing and am considering picking up one of my own for a new daily driver. I currently have an 89 S-10 Blazer with a built 4.3 engine that needs some body work. Have had that since I was 17 (5 years now) and would never part with it. But it would be nice to have something new and sporty.

Just a question I have is are there any major differences between the 01-02-03 CL models powertrain/engine wise? Looking around I can pick up a 02 with around 70,000km (not miles ) for like $20,000-$25,000 locally.

thanks in advance!

Hey, welcome aboard

The only main difference between the 01, 02, and 03 models is that the 2003 was available with a 6-speed manual tranny. Power is the same on all cars, and the only changes through the years were cosmetic.

thanks guys, I'm not concerned with cosmetics that much. Just engine and performance.. 6spd would be sweet, but I cant really afford an 03..

Just make sure you get a Type-S.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck with the hunt.

oh it will be a Type-S for sure, I figure if I'm going to buy a new car I might as well do it right. Wont settle for anything under 240hp (@Crank anyways lol)
My 4.3 is making about 260@crank now but its also a 4000lb truck lol.

That's not bad at all!!

My buddy used to have a '99 ZR2 with the 4.3L. It was stock, but still a fun truck to drive nonetheless. I remember when we used to hit up constructions sites with it. That was a good time.

What do you have done to your truck besides the built engine?

Just the engine at this point.
Bigger cam, headwork, rollerized rockers, that kind of thing. Pretty happy with it, just need to get the computer chip burned becuase the cam is causing fuel delivery issues. Oh well.
Plans are for a 3/3 lowering job on it and a paint job over this winter. Probably Chrysler or Mitsubishi Red (that Dark Metallic red) and thats about it.. shes my baby so I would never sell her. But as I said.. it would be nice to have something shiny and new.

Yeah, I hear ya. It's definitely nice to have a toy car and a car you can just drive around.

I may be wrong or missing something here, but $20k-$25k seems to be a little high for CL-S non 6-speed. I wish my car was worth that much but you can pay a lot less for the CL.

I think that's about right, since it's Canadian dollars.

yes, exactly.. stupid Canadian dollars...

I've never been a huuge fan of most imports but these cars have nice lines, and awesome interiors.. and the VTEC engine helps too.. More like 50/50 luxury/sport I think.

Yeah, even stock Type-S would put mildly to moderately modded sports coupes to shame.

thats what I figure, $20,000 for a car that will pull of 14's in the 1/4 (from what I've been reading anyways correct me if I'm wrong) and has an luxury interior appeal to it. We'll see what happens, have to sell the Ninja (2003 ZX6R) in the spring if I plan on getting a new car I guess. After seeing people die and end up in the hosptial for months from bikes it makes you think twice about riding in the city.

Yeh, make sure you get a CL-s, an extended warrenty and make friends with you local dealer. It's a good car, but the tranny sucks. I did well. I took mine in for a tranny replacement and the went ahead and fixed all the other crap that was broken at the dealer I took it too. I've heard some horror stories.
Oh yeh....welcome.
