Wow...They totally overdo some of these news stories. If you watch the video, the story is totally sensationalized which is entirely sad since two people died...

the CL was racing someone else, who took off after the accident. The 4Runner turned in front of the CL.

READ the story and watch the vid...
Cliff notes: CL-S w/ a 20y/o driver was racing someone else (cr unknown) in a residential/lite business area. Estimates speed of the CL-S was 75mph as it approached a traffic light controlled intersection when the 4runner turned left in front it causing the collision...Two dead, one maimed, news channel incorporates 2F2F into more than 50% of the story boosting ratings, dishonoring the deceased and now letting sub-90 IQ America approach attornies with cases to sue the film-makers since they are certainly the ones to blame.

The CL was racing....the 4 Runner was an innocent vehicle that came around the corner at the wrong time

I don't think the tragedy is sensationalized.....What if it was one of your family or friends that was innocently driving down the street and got killed from an idiot going 100 miles an hour just to try to prove that he is cool?

Hey, I have no problem with people modding their cars, and even racing, if it is in a safe area that is not open to regular traffic. There are safe ways to enjoy our vehicles and there are stupid, dangerous ways.

I agree that they didn't need to show scenes from 2F2F....but I do think that movies like F&F and 2F2F have made street racing more prevalant and popular again....but, it is only a movie....people should have enough intelligence to understand that....It is no different than old James Dean movies in the 50's. There will always be stupid kids who do something dangerous because they saw it in the movies....and of course, there will always be the media to play it up.

I don't think it is sensationalized at all.....What if it was one of your family or friends that was innocently driving down the street and got killed from an idiot going 100 miles an hour?
Did you watch the video of the news story? It mostly focussed it's time describing 2F2F as the culprit and the idea base for street racing. Right.
Like my dad didn't street race in the 60's or anyone else.
The point is, a kid, did a stupid thing and caused an accident racing in a CL-S. I didn't see a 2F2F tattoo mentioned anywhere. Or a sticker seen on his car. Or, or or...The movie didn't kill anyone. Street racing has been around for many years.

The story should have focussed on a stupid act and the death of two people instead of riling the masses over a movie to get people to watch a newcast and draw interest on something unrelated. It's like saying the movie Navy Seals caused me to shoot my local Arabic convenience store worker.

"Los Angeles Police Capt. Greg Meyer points to the movie "2 Fast 2 Furious" as a factor in the recent street-racing deaths. The movie was released last month. "

was 2f2f driving? Did the driver have 2f2f in his blood? How was 2f2f a factor? This is an ignorant comment. I guess Acura was a factor as well. So was the government for building these roads. Everyone is to blame except for the kid driving the car!

Everyone noticed the 2F2F references... Did anyone notice that the accident ocurred on what appears to be a relatively busy street? I'm sorry the moron who was racing got hurt or killed, but I'm sorrier for the innocent people in the 4Runner who got taken out through no fault of their own. Street racing is just plain stupid.

Why does everything always happen b/c of a movie's influence??? Street Racing has been around for years, decades even...2Fast2Furious has been out for what 2 months maybe. I hate people these days that refuse to give responsibility to those involved.

Hell I just recently watched the Itaian Job so I think I'm going to go rob an armored car...shhh, don't tell anyone!

Ok, let's understand this. The 4 runner made a left hand turn in front of the cl. it does not say the Cl driver was breaking any other laws (running red light ect....) The responsibility should be shared at that point. i am a bike rider and people need to take just as much responsibility for pulling out in front of people.

I agree but didn't have the balls to say it. I agree with CBR as well. Although racing is stupid sounds like the person in the SUV also used poor judgment. Either way, no one deserved/deserves to die.

Any kid that dies, I feel sorry for. Life is way too precious, and stupid things like racing are way too easy...I'm not gonna call the deceased a "dumbass", but to each his own...
...
I will tell you, the article states it was 9:45pm (dark) and the CL-S was going 75mph nearing an intersection in a residential type area. That being said, one could assume the PSL is 45mph or less. Without going overboard (I work for an insurance carrier and I have a braking matrix), it takes an average car approximately 140ft to react to a hazard and stop from 45mph. It takes that same car approximately 400ft to react and stop from 75mph. That being said, that 4runner would have cleared that intersection if it had turned in front of the CL-S if it were only going 45mph.

Putting myself in the position of the 4Runner driver, I wouldn't expect a car to be coming at me at twice the speed limit on a city street. It's also not fair to assume being aware of asshole street racers should become part of defensive driver training and fault people for not anticipating it. It's hard to judge velocity in the dark so by the time the 4Runner realized how fast the CL-S was traveling it was probably too late to react. Also, at the speed the CL-S was going, evasive action would have also been impossible. Sorry, blame goes to the CL-S driver for using really bad judgement.

I dont think it is the movie's fault either! It is Acura's fault! They should just stop making the Type'S! Start using integra 1.8L in them.
(sorry if you did not hear the sarcasm)
But all kidding aside, it really is a sad story and eveyone should think about it before smearing a 127 HP civic on a busy public road.

I don't feel sorry at all for the CL driver. Racing 75+ mph on busy street is just plain dumb.

I am glad that no body else were killed.

I'm not saying the CL driver wasn't responsible but I see way too many people who are too absent minded and don't really care to assess the situation. Maybe I tend to think more when I drive and evaluate situations than most but I feel and it doesn't take a whole lot of thinking and calculating to see a car coming at you pretty quickly.

I've seen people racing on the highway behind me coming up quickly so rather than changing lanes I stay put till they pass. If we collide because I switch lanes then its still their fault but it also means I used poor judgment.
