Arrow S2000 Vs. Cl-s 6

Ok were to start. Read on really exciting..

So im driving tonight with my girl, windows down jammin to Saosin and come up along this red s2000 with the top down kid about my age and damn that car looked nice. We were driving normal for about 2 miles just enjoying the perfect night driving weather and seeing if one of us would take the bait and want to go.

We hit a red light. We both look at each other and just nodded and said "whats up", turn to my girlfriend and she say's "do it babe" (witch was wierd because she hates when I go fast) He starts revin to wait for the green so I rev up to about 3500 rpm and bam. It turns green, and it was the best launch Id ever done. (The tires were semi-let loose but there was still alot of traction if that makes sence) So were both going wide open throttle and were dead even through 1st. Then shift into 2nd and chirped that like a pro and still dead even. Shifted into 3rd and were still goin WOT and still even. Shift into 4th and were still dead even and we went all the way to about 115sh mph and shut it down.

When we stop at the next light we were both like "daaamn" First thing he said was "That sounds F!@#in good that cant be stock" I replied "Oh F!@# no" I told him Ive got the header's, pulley's, exhaust. And the new driver mod <(I didnt say that, I just though it was funny) Then proceded to tell him "I heared those cars were supposed to smoke my car but that was a nice race I cant believe we were even." And we were dead even! He said "yeah man good race, I cant believe you kept up either." So the light turned green and we just rolled away. And he kept staring at my car to see what it was it looked like. But this shit is debadged.

Thank you headers, pulleys and exhaust. I really felt'em tonight.

Anyone else race a S2000 before? Same or different outcome?

Was it driver error on his part why it was even or was it official?

Yeah I believe he was stock. I couldn't hear anything like exhaust or the deep sound of intake. But yeah I was for sure stoked.

Intake coming soon.

And it did feel sweet... Just seeing him right next to me as we go from 0 to 115 with lights passing exhaust and v-tec just SCREAMING at high RPM's, just going all out.. Do you guys know what I mean? It was def a cool feeling.

Damn I was hoping that the CL-S6 could be neck to neck with a stock S2000, guess we need those extra mods. I've been betting my buddy that I would keep up with him when he gets his S2000.

Nice encounter! I pulled up next to a young kid in an S2000 one day and he nodded over to me and said I heard those CL's are sleepers. I just nodded back and said yeah but you'll definitely take me out. I'm automatic and at the time only had an intake, no headers yet. We didn't race, just mutually agreed we liked each others rides and just went our separate ways. Anyway, that's awesome that you guys were neck to neck, must have been so much fun! Keep it up!

Well driven S2k's are solid low 14/high 13 cars bone stock. They have to be launched like you hate it though, because if you botch the launch they will run high 14's. They dont have enough low end torque to pull away from a stop if you bog it.

I believe that a H/I/P/E CL-S6 would pull or keep even with a stock S2k. Good race

Just thought I would weigh in on this one...

Stock, an s2000 has to be launched at high RPM to be considered fast. Considering that you have a cl2 6spd with headers and some other mods, its not surprising that you kept up with him. I ahte to say but if he had launched a few thousand higher you might not have kept up with him...

Ok I had to bump this 5 year old thread since I just shat on my buddy's stock S2K tonight. By the end of 2nd gear I was pulling on him good and he wasn't getting past me after that. We shut off by 120 km/hr on an 80km road.

I'm shocked that everyone in this thread are saying that S2K's are in a different league then us? I mean I know they're light and got RWD, but I've beat on a few S2K's before as well and I'm pretty much stock. Something's not right here..

Yeah, I'd say racing S2K's are 'competitive'. Stock they're no pushover but beatable. With a little work though they'll surprise you

Funny, I beat an S2K w/intake and exhaust last night, and another a little while ago. I definitely think a CLS-6 with a competent driver, stock for stock, should be able to pull on them.

Yea AP1s aren't all that quick, but AP2s are pretty quick. I pulled an AP2 as well pretty good up top. We were even through 1st, I creeped in 2nd and in 3rd I put a good gap on him, probably 2 cars and a little more in 4th with a steady pull when I shut it down. This of course, was almost 2 years ago.

A stock AP2 should beat a stock CL-S 6MT.

AP1 would be pretty close. And yeah, it's all about the launch.

Me vs another M3 and an AP2 S2K w/intake and exhaust from a 20 roll last sunday....in mexico. I'm in the middle.

40 roll (right lane misses gear)

20 roll

From a dig VS my friend's M3

I haven't run a CLS-6 yet but I think it would perform the same if not better, no? I have run a modded 03 TL-S, it was pretty much the same results.

i race a ap2 s2000 about a month ago with intake, headers, and test pipe and exhaust.
at first he called me out telling me lets race and i said lets go .then i told him i know ur s2k isnt stock. and he kept telling me it was stock when you can clearly tell it wasnt
so i raced with my 2001 acura cl type s auto just intake and headers. we were neck to neck all the way to about 120 then we both shut down . then after we raced he told me what he had done to it and was very surprised that i kept up with him. he told me that he thought he was gonna smoke and i just laughed

lol what is going on in here..? There is no way a CLS even with all bolt-ons can beat an S2000.. I'm not going to lie, the s2k isn't the fastest sports car out there but dang, I can't believe what I'm reading.
CLS does have 20hp (guessing maybe 40hp w/ bolt-ons) over the s2k.
But it also has 700+lbs over the s2k. Those s2k guys must not know how to race from a dig.. Like KC said, they need to be lauched at high rpms. If the lauch is good these things take off like a bat out of hell. Especially the newer AP2s with TCS.

I could be wrong though. Anyone want to meet up and try to prove me wrong?

Its only a 500lb difference. And the CL has an 80lb-ft advantage.

A stock AP1 runs mid 14s (and the AP2 isnt much faster). A stock CL-S6 runs......mid 14s (some even managed low 14s). Both cars are very capable.

Unfortunately Ive never had the opportunity to race one from a dig, but Ive raced a few from a roll - including three at once. None have beaten me, only one was able to stay within a car length. From the sounds of it, he had at least i/h/e.

But why are you drag racing an S2k? Thats not what that car is about.

If MotorTrend's specs are correct (3,510) then it is 700+lbs difference.
You are right about the torque though. f22 isn't really a torque-wonder.
I don't drag the S2k, I autocross. But for you I would make an exception

The CL-S6 is 3,446lbs. So its more like 600lbs.

In all honesty though, I may not be the best person to race. Im a bit past the "bolt on" stage However, my previous run ins with S2ks were with the 3.2l and the "base" 3.6l build.

600 pound difference plus FWD vs RWD. There is a traction issue.

Not as much as you'd think. Even when I was stock on all-seasons it wasn't very difficult to get a good launch. The LSD definitely helps with that however.

And dont get me wrong, Im not saying the S2000 is crap - far from it. Im just saying don't discount the CL, especially in 6MT form.

I lovedddd the Lexus GS 400 when it first came out and happened to run one when I just had headers. I thought there was no way I could win but I pulled on him during a freeway run. The CL can surprise many cars which is part of its appeal imo.

haha. No wonder why an s2k hasn't been able to pass you up.. But yeah, I'm pretty much stock. Just intake. I kinda wanted exhaust but I want to keep my 4 banger quiet and the stock exhaust already sounds great. But I/H/E doesn't do much at all for us without a tune. Would still be an interesting race none the less.

Hey, as I said, I've ran one when I was still bone stock. It was actually a few days after I bought my CL back in '08. I was driving back home from NY. We were at a toll booth at the Delaware/Maryland border on 95 and went for it. I dont remember if it was an AP1 or 2 though, but I still edged him out.

S2K's are quick cars, but no monsters. A J series 6MT would fair just fine with an S2K stock for stock. With a good driver in each, I'd say the S2K would edge it out from a dig in the 1/4 mile, but above 100 the J should reel the S2K back in a bit.

I ran an AP2 with test pipe and a small girl passenger when I had I/E/PCDs/Jpipe and put 2.5 cars on him from a dig to 105 and still pulling. My car was quite a bit faster than a stock Accord though. At this point, (from my experience at least) I think it'd take a full bolt on/tuned S2K to keep up. But I'm just guessing.

Idk, I've yet to find an s2k that wasn't boosted that impressed me in straightline performance, but that's not what they were meant to do. I'd have to give the edge to the CL-S from what I've personally seen, could be different for others. GhettoNinja if u wanna make a trip to FL I've got an old M3 for you to test your skills/performance with
