S/C'ed CL-S vs 2004 Ford Lightning

I drove alot today for work, I probably drove 100+ miles from different job sites, back and forth, etc. From VA, to DC, to MD, back to VA etc. Surprisingly I didn't run into anyone that wanted to play despite seeing many M3's and an last gen MB E55, STi's etc.

Well i'm on a 3 lane road and I'm in the center lane. In my driver's side rear view mirror I see a Ford Lightning kinda following behind me, staying with me at my speed. We get to a light and he rolls down his window and says "nice looking car, what are the gauges for?" I told him "boost and fuel pressure". He replied with, "boost? how much horsepower does that thing have?" I said "It's just a V6, 295 horsepower" () He says "oh I just picked this truck up 3 weeks ago, it's alot of fun it has 380 horsepower." I pretended to be shocked and said "wow that's alot for a pickup truck!" So the light turns and he punches it. I had already anticiated this so I switched off VSA during our quick conversation. He shoots out of the hole spinning his tires and gets a good 1.5-2 car lengths on me. By the top of 1st gear I pulled within 1 car length of him. By 70 mph in 2nd I was dead even with him. I took it up the end of 3rd and I had about 3-4 lengths on him at 105 MPH. I had to slow down then cause we were coming up on a traffic light and I was turning off onto another street.

We stop at the light and he says "I thought you said it only had 295 horsepower!?! I grined back at him and said "yeah 295 at the wheels"

That truck came off the line so damn hard. I'm sure he could have managed a 1.9 or 1.8 60' at the track. They usually trap around 103-105 when they are stock so I was pretty confident I could take him, and then I did

Can't wait for the E-Manage. A guy I know through work is actually buying a Lightning very soon so I'll hopefully had a video or two of a similar race.

Boost > *

Haha, the day I got my suspension mods, headers and icebox, I lined up next to one at a light. I just wanted to test the mods, didn't think I could keep up with him. My girlfriend was with me, he was by himself. When I revved my engine a little, the guy litterally laughed out loud. He got a 1.5 car jump on me, but I had a terrible launch and it pretty much stayed there the whole time to about 90 before he slowed down because it was a 45 mph speed zone. Then we tried it from a roll, I punched it 1/2 seconds before him, but he stayed behind me the whole time, he couldn't pull on me at all. When I turned at the next light, I laughed out loud, but he wouldn't even look over.

Great Kill, btw. Imagine if you would have gone from a roll, you would have murdered him! To put 4 cars on a lightning after being back 2 cars is quite an achievement.

I'm impressed you were able to hang with one. They normally run around 13.5 @ 102-104 sometimes 105. The '99 and 2000 models weren't as fast though, maybe that's what it was.

I really have no idea what year it was, but the look on the guy's face was priceless.

Also, it doesn't seem like they trap that high for having a 13 second time. Looks like the launch and the torque is what gets them into 13s.

Weren't you the guy who trapped 100 mph + NA with bolt ons?

Yeah I trapped 101 once with bolt ons. A few other times at 100+.

They have good horsepower and tons of torque, but its like trying to push a brick through the wind. Serious aero drag slowing them down. Up to the 1/8th mile they are beasts.

Nice! I am a big fan of the lightnings as those things are beasts. I've seen a mid-12 second one at the track and the guy was pretty cool. Told a friend and I a story how some jackass challenged him to a race not really knowing much about the lightnings for money at the track (the other guy had a chevy truck I think). Needless to say the lightning won.

at teh steve acting shocked at the guy's hp response! I can just see the look on your face, "oh really? wow!"

Intake + Pulley + Re-Flash = 12.80's @ 108 on stock tires.
