Rx8

an adult perspective
should start selling under MSRP shortly, now that the HP cat is out of the bag. people (on the RX8 Forum) are seriously considering taking advantage of the buy-back. if you can live with mpg's in the teens, limited low/mid range torque, questionable A/C properties, and somewhat intense heat coming from the tunnel area (majority of complaints) this car is for you. car is extremely happy if you keep the revs up, and the pulling properites are virtually linear after you get the revs up. more head room than in either the G35c or the CL-S, leg room is questionable but didn't hinder spirited driving, and the interior is much more asthetic than the Z. all in all, not a bad drive, but for me, even if the h/w mpg were at the advertised 24, it doesn't meet my minimum requirement to allow me to make 3 rounds trips to work between fill-ups.

Happy CL-S Pilot
The flop of HP is big disapointment for me... It was 250 then 247 then 238HP and it only dyno at 175-185 WHP!!.. if it was 247HP it should dyno at 204-207WHP.
I will wait till I see a 300 HP version. I want a 255 WHP

I saw one in person on the road and I just didnt feel it, the fender in the front are odd at the wrong angle.
The pics of the car are hot, and id love to test drive, but this car seems like it is doomed to be plagued with problems and now bad press for the whole hp thing.

The RX-8 isn't even that fast at the track. I have a Best Motoring video where the Japan RX-8 (really makes 250-hp due to a less restrictive ECU for emissions) loses BADLY to a S2000, Skyline (G35c), WRX and RSX-R. The only car it beats is the Miata

When I was looking at new cars in April, I decided to look at the mazda 6. At the time, they offered no incentives ( I passed by there and have noticed the prices are lower with 1500 in incentives ) and it was a terrible value, considering they didn't feel overly peppy. I think it runs in the family. The guy told me to wait for an Rx8,but I'm glad I didn't. I would have waited for a refund. Though, I will say I think the Rx8 is nice looking machine. Of course, this is my opinion, but it looks different and it looks sleek, and I would be more than happy to play at 8 or 9 k rpm.
And I haven't seen one around in my travels recently. I haven't even seen one in the big easy. Local mazda dealer has only a few on hand for test drives. I haven't seen much advertising for it, but then again it's really new...so maybe this buy back plan is their hopes of getting free advertising, ahha

While Honda only prolonged the warranty on the faulty transmissions (which can cause deaths), Mazda went out and are giving great incentives to the already RX8 buyers.
And considerig Mazda is a MUCH smaller company then Honda, they deserve an even bigger

the tranny is a defect that affects probably less than 5% of total cars, while ALL RX8's are effected by mazda mis-advertising their hp numbers.
and Mazda is backed up by FordMoCo. They are not a a much smaller company at all.

True, that the circumstances are different, but ultimately it comes down to how much ur willing to stand behind what u make/sell.
And its also true that the tranny issue effects only a small # of CL/TL/Odessey/MDX but its results can be much more serious then not getting 10 more HP out of ur car.
Would u feel safer in a car with a bit less power or in a car with a ticking transmission while ur doing 80? For Honda, PROFITS > SAFETY of their customers so they wont recall & replace.
As far as the Mazda working with Ford goes... u dont actually think Ford will hand them whatever amount of $$$ they need, do u? Mazda itself is a far smaller company then Honda and I'm 100% sure Mazda alone will have to take the hit and shell out every last penny to keep customers' trust.

You think mazda is doing this for anything but profit?
they only offer the buyback program so their name doesn't go out of favor with consumers of their other cars. the rx8 probably sells in a relatively low number compared to their other cars. if they lose face, their other models suffer which equals less profit.

if honda f*cks up, they are on their own with no "mother" to back them up.
