my car just rolled over the 50,000 mile mark, and of course i get in it today and at Idle it smells like rotten eggs in the car. ahsd anyone had problems with their catalytic converters, or anything else that would cause the rotten egg smell.

Are you sure it was your car? Or were you following another car that stank .

Could it be the bacteria build up in the A/C System?

Lysol in the air vent when u have the system on full blast. That will solve ur problem or unclog ur water drain for the AC. I had that problem for a week.

it was definately my car, cause its a recurring smell. And yes, the cat breaks down gases, but the odor should not permeate into the car unless there is a problem.

Mine does this when I use Shell gas and get on it, then back off. Like merging onto the freeway. Everytime. I can tell when others use Shell too. That same sulfer smell. I have read that Shell is higher in sulfer content than other fuels.

Maybe if I scratch long enough I can figure out what you're talking about.

today me and my friend decided to floor it off the start at some intersections during our lunch period. I floored my 04 TL (950 miles) and when we got to the next red light there was a rotten egg smell for about 1 minute. I wasnt sure if it was my car or his (Ford Explorer). Has anyone had the CAT smell after flooring it hard?.. i think it might have been that my engine is not fully broken in.

By 2nd gear i had a car length on him

Figured out what the smell was, I had a bad battery. One of the cells in the battery was bad, causing it to overcharge and boil over, it was the fumes from the battery entering into the car.

Yep, it is gasoline high in sulfur content. All gasoline comes out of the same pipeline so it would be hard to say who refined the gasoline. Might want to try a different brand and see if it helps.

A mechanic also told me that the sulfer smell is because they run the cars so lean now.

If a change in gas doesn't get rid of it you might have to get it checked out. Years and years ago my first car also put out such a smell and I brought it in to the dealer and they did some adjustment and it went away. So maybe some fuel setting is off.
