Rotor problems

Just had my rotors resurfaced (under warranty) last Friday. They were great for a couple of days, but now the shimmy is even worse than before! Should I have the resurfaced again? I am thinking that I should demand some NEW rotors. Anybody have problems mulitple times with their rotors?

I had mine resurfaced about 5K miles ago and they went bad within 3K miles. They did not replace my pads (I argued and am still argueing with them TSB 01-170). I am now trying to get them to "Replace the rotors" and put in new pads..

I've had mine resurfaced 3 times. The first and the second time only 5k miles apart. The third time they replaced the pads and it's been fine for 15k miles. The pads are the key to the fix.

Exact smae problem here. had them resurfaced once. It didn't help. They said they don't liek to resurface a rotor more than once, so they put on new ones.

I've had mine resurfaced twice and replaced twice.
First time - all 4 replaced.
Second time - fronts resurfaced; after test drive dealer decided
to replace fronts.
Third time - rears resurfaced.
Fourth time - rears replaced.

I asked the service manager if Acura has changed the part as
fixing the same problem 4 times in 2 years seems ridiculous. He
says to his knowledge its the same part. I told him, like Arnie,
"I'll be back." He says, "I know."

by the 3rd time, yer rotors' integrity may have been compromised...i'd highly suggest u get the surface area measured to make sure it's within legal specs...they're supposed to inspect the surface area and rotor thickness after cutting, so i don't understand y after 3 times, u still have enough thickness to b considered safe

maybe they just didn't cut enough each time...either way, tho, yer in a potentially dangerous area here

I would definitely look into the TSB that is out there for the TL--thats how I got my front rotors and pads replaced under warranty. Call around to various Acura dealers in your area and see who would cover that under warranty--that's how I happened upon the place I use now.

Just out or curiosity, how hard do you guys drive your cars? I've got a pretty serious lead foot but at 55K miles, I'm still on the original set of rear brakes (they just passed state inspection with lots of life left in them).

Also, I don't know if this would help you guys or not but before I had the TL TSB done on my car, I had the rotors resurfaced and like you, the fix was only temporary. However, the service supervisor who called me and told me they were doing the TL TSB under warranty, said that the other dealer who resurfaced the rotors also over tightened part of the pad rotor assempbly (can't remember the name of the part) but that was "the cause" of the vibration returning in 2 weeks.

Good luck!

I thought the same thing, but they wrote on the bill that it was still in spec. and included the measurement. I don't think they'd do that if it wasn't true. That would only screw them if I did in fact have a future problem. I had my tires rotated and balanced a couple months later and the rotors looked fine. As mentioned above since they changed the pads the brakes have been perfect for 15k miles.

Mileage/Pad Wear???

Just reported brake problem to dealer and he said if the pads are worn more than 50% it's not covered under warranty and I have to pay. Car has 28,000 miles. Has anyone else heard this? What mileages have been covered under warranty?

I can't speak for other dealers, but I can tell you what a dealer did for me. I didn't even buy the car there. At 18k miles I had my rotors trued FREE. At 26k miles I had them trued again free. At 33k miles I had the rotors trued a third time and they installed the brake pads called out on the TSB. I've put 8k miles on since the last truing with the new pads and the brakes are fine. Prior to getting the new pads I would have already had the pulsing return. However, I get the impression they would not have installed the brake pads had I not brought the TSB in with me. There you go for what it's worth!

as an option, consider getting brake lines...they're noticeably better and more powerful...they generate more stopping power b/c forces are not absorbed by the stock rubber lines...it's about a $200 mod installed and IMO well worth the money...totally up to u

if you like.. go to www.eurobraketech.com and call to speak with David...

they are out of CT and will custom slot / drill stock rotors to strengthen them... As opposed to what some people feel, they do strengthen, not weaken... SlyTLS has the stocks done slotted/drilled and they are unbelieveable.. I too bought my rotors from him at a cheap $$$ of $300 for all 4 rotors (frnts x-drilled/slotted / rears x-drilled) and they are BRADDI RACING rotors imported from Italy... good shit!
