Rockblocker tail light tint (help)
Rockblocker tail light tint (help)
I just received the tint order from rockblocker, and it seem really hard to put it on because it came in a precut of the whole back light, but I only want to tint the bottom half portion which is the red part so do i apply the tint on the light first then cut it while its on and then peel the top portion off? Or how do I do this? And about spraying to clean out the light... What do you guys use? Just clean water? or what kind of soap as in car wash soap? or dish washing soap?
Im not sure if I should completely put the tint on and then use an x-acto knife and cut it and then peel off the top portion or what should i do you guys?
Thanks for your great help
What do you guys think? Tint the top portion and have tailight black + red
or
the bottom portion and have my tailight be clear + black?
My car color is NightHawkBlack

i put a strip of painters tape on the edge of the line i wanted to cut (was just easier to see the blue line and follow it)
then put the tint on the light, and just used an exacto knife to cut the line i wanted on the edge of that tape. but do not use alot of pressure to where it goes through and hits the lense, you dont need to. just light pressure, will do it enough to the point that it will easily tear off in that straight line. and then lift it up to remove the tape....and bigo you have a straight line.

(eww my trunk is dirty)
i did my top half, and i LOVE it. the best mod ive ever done. look for 02cls car, he has an 03 with the top half tinted. and i think that would look best.

you can try what Stealthie said here. and/or get some sort of paper to outline the light and mark it where the cut will be. then you can use it as a template for the tint itself.
^werd.
you have yet to post pics as well.

here's how mine turned out...I like it, they sometimes look completely black

I'm going to take the amber turn signals out and replace them with chrome bulbs, so the upper part looks completely clear.

I thought the clear spoiler light matched up with the upper portion of the tail lights. Btw, Advanced autoparts had a sale on Silverstar bulbs, so I put a pair in their to match my fronts.

i like this better than the bottom half tinted.
i tinted the whole tail on my 02, but i really like the 03 with the bottom tinted.
good decision!
truexh. can't see anything wrong from the pic. everything looks aligned and can't see any bubbles. what did you eff up and can you post a closer look?
01CLkid: that looks pretty good. now you need to black out that A emblem. i had the Rockblockers too, but decide against putting them on.

Looks just fine to me, other than it needs a good washing
Oh, if you do have a couple small little air bubbles, just drive around with your headlights on for a while, the tail lights will get pretty hot with the incadesant bulbs in there, and eventually they'll work themselves out, or you'll be able to push them out pretty easily. I had a couple when I did mine, and I wasn't feeling up to messing with it anymore at the time, but I came back a day or two later, and they we're all gone.

I got frustrated trying to get the whole thing around the curve at the top, so I just started from the bottom and worked up till I covered all the red, stepped back a bit and thought it looked pretty good. So I got my x-acto out and cut right above the line dividing the upper and lower portion of the tail light. Repeat on the other side.
