Road Rage Anyone?

Normally i wouldn't bother speaking of experiences with the topic, but this one was too interesting and out of the ordinary.
Last week, i am driving down a 2 lane road, having just made a left turn. A maxima also made the left with me and we both proceeded. So he is in the first lane and i am kind of lingering for a second between the 1st and 2nd (right lane), then i put my signal shortly after and merge completely into his lane. Now, this guy acts like I cut him off or something, he punches it and goes in the oncoming traffic lane to pass me. I literally haven't seen someone do something so dumb before.
Anyways, we continue on, and i merge back onto the previous lane, because my freeway onramp was approaching. We are both waiting at the light, i am in the turning lane and he is waiting to go straight.
Light turns green and goes straight at first, then suddenly jerks into my lane almost hitting me!!
He floors it onto the freeway and hits 80 in no time. I brake check him soon after a while but nothing too drastic.

Here's the best part of this though:
This wasn't some kid or an angry looking dude. It was an old 75 year old dude with his white hair wife sitting in the passenger!!!
How the hell he didn't have a heart attack at this moment is beyond me. I would of never expected someone of that age to display such childish rage. I was pissed when it all started, but seeing these old farts act this way made my day in the end.

he is not displaying childish rage, he simple can't control the throttle padel. There are tons of old men have problem moving their legs and feet, but they are driving...

I've seen more then my fair share of road rage being conducted by older people. They're no exception.

I know what you guys mean, but ive never seen someone go off like this before. I wish i could video tape him and send it to the authorities.
But picture him doing this with his 70 year old wife (conservative estimate) next to him. If i could irritate him that easily, imagine if he gets cut off badly!

Why did you merge into his lane anyway if you were just going to make a turn from the lane you were just in?

I was hauling a load in my truck yesterday when some putz in a neon pulled a right on red right in front of me. Had to hit the brakes. I layed on the horn to let him know what he just did, He proceeds to poke along flipping me off. I guess I'd be pissed at the world too if I had to drive around in a POS old neon.

I so wish I still had my old 75 dodge truck beater, no one every got the best of me on the road with that old thing.

I was fine with your story until that part.
“Brake checking” is the dumbest thing ever, no matter how “correct” you feel you are.
Plus if the dipshit hits you, it’s YOUR fault for causing the accident no matter what happened before that.

I deal with my share of idiots on the road every day.
Pulling in front of them and hitting the brakes is the LAST thing I’ll do.

Isn't brake checking when you tap the brakes while you are in front?

If so there is no legal way it can be your fault if he hits you. You rearend someone it is your fault for not leaving enough space. Pretty hard to argue around that one.

Yea, you go with that.
And hope there aren’t any witnesses.

Shawn S is right, both parties would be at fault. The driver who brake checked would be fined for causing the accident, and the driver behind would be fined for tailgating.

I know, cause it happened to a friend of mine. The cop didn't buy the "squirrel jumped out in front of me" defense and both drivers got ticketed.

Yeah I will go with that

Burden of proof is on the person slamming into your car from the back

Don't get me wrong because with all the wackos i would be more worried about them getting out and shooting me if i brake checked but flat out if they are riding your ass and slam into your rear when you brake.... their fault

Yes, I see what you’re saying, but the bottom line is it’s pretty DUMB.

There was a thing on Dateline the other day about these people who look for delivery trucks from big names like Coke, McDonalds, Budweiser & such.
They then fill the car with “innocent victims” and go out and cause an accident using 2-3 cars to box the truck in.
Of course they’re looking for the big payoff, but many times they misjudge the danger and the check gets written out to their next of kin.
