Rewire road lamps to parking lights

I tried a search but couldn't really find an answer other than it has been done. I want to wire the road lamps so they will come on with the parking lights as well as the head lights.

There is only one way I would consider doing this. You would need two relays, one powered on by the parking lights and the other powered on by the head lights. Both relays would be wired in parallel on their switched contacts to power the road lamps from a separate fused 12vdc circuit.

The only other way would be to use diodes between the parking and headlight 12vdc to the roadlamps. But this would be risking cause diodes can short out or may not be able to handle the current.

But I'd ask myself if this is even worth the effort. If you're driving with your road lamps on without the headlights, what benifit is this? To impress people? The roadlamps don't provide enough light for night time driving and they don't work very well in fog.

Honestly if your going for "cool" go get an HID fog kit...Osram and Phillips makes a kit for about $450 - you will spend that much after someone screws up your wiring...:P

If it can't be done, then that's all I needed to hear. I'm not interested in alternatives. When I ran a search someone posted that they had done it and that they were going to post pics of how they did it, but the pics were never posted.

It can be done. I actually wanted to do this myself.

It can be done, I actually did not have any fog lights and went out and bought the 02 road lamps. I wired them so they come "on" when the TL switch i installed is on and the side markers (yellow ones) are on.

If the side markers are "off" the switch has no effect.
If the side markers are "on" the switch controls the road lamps.

You will need an 8077A relay (Autozone) about $11.00.
A TL fog lights switch, (Acura) about $43.00
Some 16 gauge wire minimum (prefer 14 gauge)
An in-line fuse (Autozone) maybe $1.50
About 12 wire terminals 1/2 female and 1/2 male.

Instructions on how to get it actually done can be lenghty, PM if you want them.

My procedure is for using a switch in combination. You can also go to the Useful topics section for a part breakdown and instructions on how to get it done without the switch.

Can I do it without a switch? I just want them to automatically come on when the parking lights (side makers) come on.

on altimas.net a guy did a write up on how to do it, just search for it, might be in the archives or something, I know it's a different car and all but he did it W/O a separate switch, there is a diagram and all, it should give you the just of things.

You could just lift the wire and re-route to your parking lights. The electrical system is not that sensitive. It's still just 12VDC

I did it on my Explorer, but I don't have it anymore and don't really remember the specifics of it. Basically I just need to tap into the parking light's power supply right? Splice into it? In the useful topics section it shows splicing into the parking light's wires. But it doesn't show how to access the parking light's wires. Any help?
