Review of Xephyr CAI!!!!
Okay guys I had finished typing up a long-!ss review but I accidnetally hit 'refresh' on MSIE and it dissappeared. Here I go again...
I know we've all been waiting a long time for this CAI to come in. Trust me it was worth the wait. Seriously, all of you doubters who swore Xephyr off should reconsider. This product is amazing.
I received it yesterday, and called me friend over who got here at around 10:00. We immediately printed out instructions from the Xephyr webpage and got working on it immediately. The hardest part of the install was getting the damn resonator box out. Besides that though, most of it was relatively simple. Anyways, we finished at 11:40, and disconnected the battery. We went inside to eat, get a drink, wash up, etc. etc.
We give it 20 minutes and we get back at 12:00AM. We reconnect the battery, and turn on the engine. Immediately the engine sounded a *little* deeper and throatier. I quickly programmed the radio/nav, and told my friend to hop in. We drove around for about 10 minutes and WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LAETITIA DIDN'T SOUND THE SAME AT ALL!!!! Past 3000 RPMs a difference can be heard. Once you hit VTEC range, though, then OHHHH the engine sounds like its begging you for more. As we "inched" towards redline, the engine was screaming "yes oh yes"! Since I had school the next day and it was already 12:20AM we parked the car and he left. I left the car on idle for about 5 minutes and I noticed a wierd humming noise. Not the sucking in of the air, just a wierd humming noise.
Day 2 - In the morning the fog was too thick so I couldn't put the Xephyr CAI to a fullon road test. After school was a different story though. My friend who helped isntall the CAI(he has a 540iA DINAN CAI/exhaust/chip upgrade) motioned for me to gun the engine while we were going up a hill. I dropped Laetitia into 2nd and floored it. The engine is SOOOOOOOO agressive/mean/LOUD sounding now!!! It was suh-weeeeeeeeet!! My friend is even seriously considering getting rid of the DINAN Carbon Filter CAI and getting a Xephyr one cuz its louder. He was amazed at the sound of the car cuz it sounds like a V8 now! Anyways heres a quick rundown :
Cons :
~ Install was not as easy as Xephyr2k said it would be, but then again I'm car illiterate so it would be easier for a carbuff or something. It's not HARD mind you, its just not easy.
~ The wierd buzzing noise at first, but now the sound is gone.
~ Took a while to get here.
PROS :
~ $215 w/ shipping!!
~ 269HP
~ Looks way better than the stock filter/intake.
~ SOUNDS MEAN. SOUNDS AGGRESSIVE. SOUNDS READY TO TAKE APART ANY RICE/GS400/etc.
~ Install doesn't require a professional.
~ It's extremely easy to change a road lamp while you're down there taking out the old resonator box...it's in the same general area.
~ Sounds like a V8.

~ Better gas mileage.
~ Can convert to short ram in no time.
All in all I give this product TWO THUMBS UP!!! Really, if you want a CAI order Xephyr's. I think he is back on track now so you don't have to worry about the non-receipt, etc. This CAI is DEFINETLY WORTH $215 of your money and 1 hour of your time. Xephyr was very quick to respond to his emails BEFORE his emergency and still does reply rather quickly right now. Anyways feel free to respond with questions, etc. I WILL TAKE PICTURES LATER ON TONIGHT.
Xeph, feel free to quote me if you want to...

Iridium,
I am glad to see that you are pleased with the product. I hope that the two reviews thus far are an indication of how everyone will respond to the Xephyr Performance CAI. I am honestly pleased to see that the reviews are mostly positive aside from some of the installation problems you may have had. I am working on the mounting requests that have been raised and am trying to locate someone proficient in TIG welding to add a AEM style brace extension onto the upper assembly. Two problems pose this currently:
1) Cost - Approx $25 per unit. If I can bring this number down A hair more I will re-ship the upper assembly to all customers that have purchased thus far at no cost, it would be a 10 minute swap.
2) Finish - The brackets need to be made of steel/ thick aluminum to offer true support. In the event of color intakes the color can be matched accurately, however, polished finishes are extraordinarily difficult to create with a professional grade finish.
I thank you for the reviews and will keep you all posted of the developments

Xephyr,
does your $25 cost include the shipping charges?? I'll pay the shipping....I use to own a business, and sometimes you have to eat the costs when your customers are out of state.
I want you to succeed with your products for this great car!!!
Reply back.........thanks.

Are your intakes smog legal in California? They are very snotty about smog checks out here. The unit has to have a CARB, E.O. number or it wont pass the visual part of the smog check.(The K&N CAI that I had for my Toyota 4X4 had a sticker with the smog numbers to put on the air box.)

Great!! But most aftermarket intakes will give you almost the same power/sound. The differance is how good is it tuned. If you really want to feel a major HP gain try the headers you won't regret.
