Review on wife's new ride
Traded in: Green 1997 Honda Accord EX (great car)
Criteria for new ride: Automatic Transmission, heated seats, comfortable seats with no lateral supports like my S so that leaves the TLS out, near 30 mpg
Test drove in this order:
Passat 4 cylinder - prehistoric plastic dials for controls, hard seats and ride, awful
Maxima 3.5 GLE - OK ride, not much metal on doors (sort of tinny), cheap feel to car
Audi 1.8 - Passat clone, my Miata had more room than the Audi for driver and passenger. We drove at night and there must of been 30 red controls lit up below radio. It looked like a 747 console. Very distracting.
Audi 3.0 six speed - (there was no auto available for test drive) Still no room, distracting controls at night, smooth and powerful engine (brochure said 6.9 for 0-60 on manual), pulled nice in every gear, nice ride but not worth
$38,000 with options
Camry 4 cylinder - at 80 mph the engine had a loud wine sound. Very powerful for a 4 cylinder. A lot of wind noise.
Camry 6 cylinder - quiet engine but still the wind noise with MSRP of $30k
Honda Accord 6 cylinder - POS need I say more.
The most disappointing car of the bunch. Her 1997 was so much better put together. Boy, has Honda slipped on quality!!!
THE WINNER IS:
2002 Acura TL
Quiet, nice acceleration, great color in Pearl White, more comfortable ride than my S, better looking paint job than my S, driver seat belt retracts and mine still does not (need to get looked at after a year), HUGE back seat and leg room area, a very impressive car and had everything she was looking for. Got it for $28,200 with $7,500 trade allowance for 97 Accord with 92,000 miles needing a timing belt and 90k maintenance.

I read somewhere that Acura is one of the "best kept secrets" out there. When your looking at paying $29k for a Camry or Maxima or Audi 1.8 and you don't even know that Acura exists or what it is - oh boy!
Someone needs to get the word out there!

Like Apple's commercials... they don't make any sense.

The Honda Accord is the highest selling car in the 20k segment.
The Acura TL is the highest selling car in the 30k segment.
I think Honda marketing is doing just fine.
