review of Fram SureDRAIN Valve
review of Fram SureDRAIN Valve
Welp for those who dont know... it looks like this:
it replaces your oil pans drain bolt.
the point is that you will no longer have to remove the bolt from your oil pan, you simply screw on the hose, it opens the valve, and voila... out comes the oil.
so I installed this thing on my last oil change. simple install of course... simply screws right into the oil pan.
just changed my oil with it for the first time today...
my ONLY complaint... the drainhose is angled... so while your screwing it onto the drain bolt it isnt pointing into the oil receptacle the whole time... the only way I found to prevent the oil spewing out before you finish screwing the hose on is to stick your finger in the hose... still quite messy.
but thats my only real complaint...
PROS:
- No tools needed to change oil
- Less messy then traditional method
- Dont have to worry about ruining the thread on your oil pan
- No more replacing washers
Cons:
- Difficult to aim hose
- SLOOOWWWWW to drain
Summary:
- Worth every penny of the $12 it cost me.
There were no problems with it on the road, the dust cover remained secure over the drain bolt in my travels, and unlike other quick drain systems there is no over hang to get caught on things you drive over.
Bonus review: Mobil 1 M-105 OVERSIZED Filter
No leaks, no problems, no complaints. Only little issue was that it was a bit harder to remove then an M104... but that can be a good thing... ya know nothings gonna leak outta there.
The best part about the 105 is that it when replacing... the M104 traditionally would spill almost all its oil because of the angle their installed on our cars. The M105 seems to hold the oil better and there was minimal spillage.

Thre is a bigger filter from Purolator PureOne..next time I will try it and report my findings.. I may buy the Frame valve, of my concerns is the how much oil does really drain? second for a bigger oil filter do you really need to add more oil to compensate for the bigger size?
all the oil seems to drain... i still have my milk jug full of old oil from my last change without the valve... and it is the same amount in there as todays drain with the valve.
it just takes longer for the oil to drain.
eitherway, a tiny bit of left over oil in the pan isnt hurting anything. your getting the really bad shit out when you replace the filter. but like i said... your getting the same amount out with this as you are a traditional drain.
I dont add additional oil for the larger filter... in reality the filters arent THAT much bigger that you need to add much more oil, maybe add 4.7 instead of 4.6 qts but whatever.
Yea Purolator has an oversized as well but Ive yet to see many reviews of Purolator filters... and they dont sell Purolator at dealers... Mobil 1 they do... so at least with Mobil 1 I feel like less of a renegade when the dealer looks at my car
