REV limiter in neutral ??

Is there a lower REV limiter in neutral ????

I was trying to check my actuator the other day & the
engine would NOT rev above 5500rpm in neutral.
I thought this was weird.

No problems hitting 7100rpm in gear driving down the
road though

it's in the manual - can't rev over 5500 in neutral or park.

(you did read the manual, right? )

The secondary actuator should open between 3,000 – 4,000 RPM.
If yours didn’t open by 5,500......It’s broken.

Put when i'm rolling in Neutral I've got the revs close to redline.

that's just what the manual says. if you turn your car on and try to rev it in either park or neutral while sitting in your driveway, it shouldn't go beyond 5500 rpm.

if you pop the tranny into neutral while you're rolling, it's probably just inertial effects acting on the engine. were you able to sustain redline in neutral for any length of time?

yeah, i know...I wasn't debating what you said.

The last time I did it I was pulling up to my friend's drive way, I popped it into neutral from D5 and revved the engine while the car was still rolling. I only pumped the accelator once for him to hear my new CAI.

I think there are sensors on our front wheels that can tell if the car is rolling or not and that's what determines where the rev limiter is cut off. I know that's how it is on BMWs (that's why the newer models can't be dynoed) Probably a safety feature for idiots who accidentally step on the gas while the car is not moving.

I wonder if I can sustain the revs after the car has rolled to a stop. Oh well...it's a stupid trick anyway.

Yeah I did the same thing when I first got my CAI installed. I reved hoping to hear the CAI and hit the limiter.

I obviously didn't crack the manual on this one.

I figured that's what it was but it surprised me.

Thanks for the info!
