retrofitting day time lights

retrofitting day time lights

hopefully this doesn't get flamed but, i was thinking about retrofitting our 'fogs' or day time running lights into actual fog lights. was thinking about purchasing after market fogs and cutting out the rear housing on our lights and somehow 'retro-fitting' them. these are the style of fogs i was thinking about using.



i was thinking maybe just cutting out the rear and putting these in, then just silicon it shut so water can't get in. i'm not planning on doing this unless i know it'll work. or, if this plan fails, i was planning on just using high power 3 watt LEDs from www.superbrightleds.com (where most of you bought your LED license plate lights)

questions i have:
would the fogs melt housing? thinking about doing yellow fogs.
would the fogs be too heavy and while i drive they will jump and jitter like you see on some cars?
is there any other alternatives to doing this?
should i just go with the cheap easy way with the LEDs?

i might not have not said my idea as clearly here as in my mind, so if you have any questions about my 'plan', just post it. all comments and opinions welcome!

just ditch the road lamps and bondo some fogs (oem accord or something that will fit).

haha. not a bad idea but looking for other alternatives that a easier.

DO IT.. never really seen anyone do HID fogs. Lots of talk about doing it, but no one actually does it

I would really like to see someone do a DRL more though.. would look real nice

these wouldn't be HID. however, i wouldn't want to try HID road lamps. if they do melt the housing, i'd see it as a great big loss of $$$. after market HIDs are like, 200 a set, plus new housings is 30 bucks. and probably shipping would be another 20. thats a $250 loss. but hey, if anyone else has proof that they've done HID fogs on their CL. let me know. and pics of course.

I can get a decent brand new kit for $120... comes with the wiring, the ballast, bulbs and instructions in chinese or something. my friend uses this kit in his fogs on his RDX and they are working great. Also has them in his accord as headlights and fogs along with his bro with them in his TC... So yeah They work well with no snags..

Just get two of this + battery and glue them on. Simple and effective DIY under $50.



Better yet, hook up some wires so you can turn the light on inside the car instead of outside.

HID's aren't going to melt anything, I've been told they are much cooler while in operation than a halogen.

edit: someone please confirm this if I'm wrong, I remember reading this but can't find a source confirming this.
