Retro

Okay so I just absolutly disliked not having a cutoff for my HID's made me angry and I really just like the straight line you get with a projector....sooo....... I made a retro. Let me know what you think I will post more pictures of it later when I get the car cleaned up and its not raining here.

Let me know what you think (good or bad)

Curious about the mount as well...

1) What projector did you decide to go with?

2) How are you aiming the projectors?

Good effort to DIY!

yeah there is a shroud behind the chrome piece but it is black i hope to get a clearer picture up. They are G35 bi-xenon projectors. The pictures of the projector in the housing are just stuck in there to see if i need to cut more but its mounted with a rigged set of brackets. I used a piece of pannel board to get the cutoff in a straight line (as straight as possible).

I think it would look awesome with the reflector area painted black around it...i mean...you don't need it anymore with projectors right?

looks good though. I don't know too much about retro fitting projector housings. Since we already have HIDs did the projector glass just basically go around our existing bulb? I'd be interested in doing this when I open my headlights up to clear them out.

No you have to cut and aim the projectors and you either have to modify your d2r bulbs or buy 2 d2s bulbs because of the way it sets into the projector. I will post pictures tomorrow.

Also I will post pictures of the pannel board I used to line my projectors up straight instead of all crooked.

The G35 projectors were $95 by themselves and I had misc. parts lying around to make the shrouds out of. And just used the bulbs and ballast I had.

^ Not too bad.

Is there any specific reason you chose G35 projectors?

Throw some shoruds on there and you'll be set. I did my projectors over a year ago and have never regretted it. Everyone always asks me where I bought my headlights. LOL. I just laugh and tell em if they need it done gimme a call.

No no reason I wanted a bi-xenon 2.5" projector and that one I found on a good deal. plus it was a good size to fit into the housing

ha ha there are so ......... many different was to mount a projector in there and each projector could be different than the other so.... really wouldn't do me much good. But I just use metal brackets from left over parts that I have kept from the past and screw (with jb weld) one end into the housing and the other end attaches to the projector itself, however, there are some projectors that cannot be done that way so you have to go about it in a different way. I don't know if you are part of it or not but go to Hid planet forums and check out some of the ways some of the guys on there have mounted theres.

There was another CL guy, MisterMehoff, who blacked out only part of his headlights and I wasn't a fan either.

That looks horrible. I like the OPs setup the most.

To the OP- Do you notice any stray light due to the reflector still being "there"?

If your talking about the reflector in the "low beam" area then no. The projector is just the right amont foward to not reflect off of that area, however if you live in a low lighting area then it wouldn't be too bad but no I see no stray light.

(also posted new picture in Chattanooga pics of front end.)
