? on resurfacing rotors when replacing pads

I know it's recommended to do, but if you don't see any sign of the rotors being warped, is it necessary?

My gf has a 1st gen, and is in desperate need of new pads. I want to replace the pads, but she's skeptical of my abilities (unduly).

She asked some chod at her work who is saying to resurface the rotors, and putting more doubt into her head.

So, please post your opinions on the matter.

If the rotors are within spec. there is no need to resurface them.

I just changed the back pads and didn't have any problems,, front rotors might be a different story,, change the pads and if you get sqeaking or shuddering go have the rotors resurfaced.
