Report on metallic tint with navi & radio

I got my car tinted today. Even after the test I did (search the archives for details) I was still a little anxious to see if it was really going to be OK. I'm happy to report that my navi, AM, and FM radio all still work fine. On bootup, the navi takes longer than before (about a minute) to acquire a signal from the satellites. But once its found them, it doesn't lose them. Even when there's no input from the satellites, the gyros take care of things so the display is still accurate. I average 7-8 satellites now, which is what I got before the tint. It only takes 3 satellites to get a fix on your position.

The only three AM stations I listen to suffered no ill effects. FM appears unaffected also, even KROQ which has a shitty signal.

In case you don't know you can get a realtime display of which satellites your reciever is and is not seeing. Follow the steps below, but please use caution. Much like the CMOS setup on your PC, don't push any buttons unless you know what you're doing.

1) Bootup the system and go to the map diaplay.
2) Push menu
3) Push and hold menu, map/guide, and cancel until the display changes (about 2 sec)
4) push unit check
5) push GPS

I have Madico Onyx 35% all around.

"4 GPS satellites are needed to locate your position on the Earth, in the air or space!" http://www.allgps.com/

Yeah, I read about the 4 satellites on another web page. But the little icon in the upper left of the display changes from 0 bars to 3 yellow bars when the 3rd satellite is found. So maybe our cars can somehow get by with 3 since it has inputs other than GPS. I don't know.

Probably. Four is needed for 3D nagivation, three is needed for 2D nagivation. The Navi map is 2D so I guess that's it. On a commercial jet, I need at least four to get acceptable altitude accuracy.
