Replacing the rear main seal and the transmission while it's out
I have a leak and put in dye to see where it's coming from. I need to figure out if it is the rear main and the transmission has to come out if I should have it rebuilt.
The shop quoted 350 for just the seal and 1350 to rebuild the transmission.
The transmission was replaced 102k and four years ago under the recall and is working perfectly.
On the one hand I'd hate to have it fail shortly after pulling it and on the other I don't want to spend 1k if unnecessary.
Thanks

My concern is the transmission may fai, they are known to have problems.
The thing that really stinks is there is no service that can be done without dissasembling it, even the filter is internal.

Part # 25450-P7W-003
Funny thing is when I went to buy the filter with my ATF at the dlr the parts guy said there was no changable filter, and 2 techs also said there was no filter untill I gave them the part#.
Funny how many people know nuttin bout this part and so many trannies are failing!

The owner of the transmission shop told me it was not serviceable including the filter. Can it be replaced without removing the transmission? Do you know what page it is on in the manual?

I dont think they sell that at any parts stores. I checked a few and they had no clue what I was talking about, EVEN THE ACURA DLRS didnt know what I was talking about and swore that the part didnt exist untill I told them the part #. Call your dlrs and ask them if they have a transmission filter (well they called it a strainer) and they will prob say it dont exist untill you give them the part #! They say they NEVER replace that part when the flush ATF.
They had to special order the part cuz none of the 3 dlrs in my area had it in stock!

I ordered the filter and seal yesterday will have them tomorrow. I put in dye and looked for the leak for over two hours, damn if I could tell where it was coming from, rolled the dice pulled and resealed the oil pan still leaking
I made an appointment to take it to the transmission shop to have the seal and filter installed Monday.
On a side note should my under warranty replaced in 2005 transmission have the oil jet? It does not

Did you install your transfilter today, If so was it hard to get in?
Did the old filter have alot of gook, dirt in it?
I have my filter but am waiting to install it, if its easy might try and do it this week?

I am having it done by the transmission shop that is R&R'ing my transmission to replace the rear main seal. They were supposed to do it today but ran long on several cars already there so I am dropping it off tomorrow morning.
I plan on keeping the old one and will cut it in half to see the condition. I will post pictures.
They said they will try to get it done tomorrow, I am dropping it off at 7:30am so they will have all day.

Cool. that would be GREAT if you can cut the tranny filter in half and let us all see how dirty it is!
How many miles do you have on this tranny, Is it the original tranny or a replacement? How many miles are on your car if it is a replacement tranny?
Thanks bro!

The oil leak is gone, car ran fine and runs the same. All of the transmission fluid was replaced.
There was a scare about 12 miles after I picked it up. I accelerated rapidly and all of the lights lit up & D5 started flashing. I called the shop and took it back.
The code was 1753 which their Snap On code reader told them was one of the sensor connectors which had come loose, they popped it back on, cleared the code and all was well, WHEW!

I would have recommended doing the torque converter o rings as well. It's usually a 50/50 chance with one or the other going bad. Seeing how your trans was fairly new, I doubt they would have started leaking...but for anyone else on original trans that has a leak from that area, good idea to do both

I asked the shop if I should replace the torque converter, he said it was bulletproof.
I let him know I preferred to do anything and everything to avoid pulling the transmission again and he said he would do what he thought was necessary. He may have done the O rings, I doubt he would want to pull the transmission again for free.
