Replacement Axles

Our 99 TL-P has around 112K miles and vibrates at highway speeds. I'm pretty sure that it's an axle.

Has anybody tried Napa Auto Parts axles? They list new ones for about $110 each side. Cheapest i've found OEM are around $800 - 850 for the pair.

have you tried to drive it with your wheels on to make sure it's not wheels or tires ?
axles still can get defective, but it's pretty rare (unless boots cracked and let grease out).

i had my axles rebuilt. a driveshaft shop will do it for less than napa sells them for. but, some of those axles are lifetime warranty.

It's not tires or wheels and it's pretty easy to isolate. Tires and wheel problems are usually pretty constant with speed. My problem is related to load and speed which leads me to the axles.

I hadn't gone down that path. I'll check in my area for driveshaft shops. Thanks for the idea.

so did you get this done?

NAPA still has them 110/side brand new. oemacuraparts.com has them for $650/side. But should I replace the intermediate shaft as well? Brand new from Acura it's $200. Is there any reason the int shaft would need to be replaced? I figure while I'm in there it should get done, but it involves draining the tranny fluid which adds to the cost.

I prefer a reman OEMs. Although, that crap out on me too, it did not break in half. My problem was the axle input doesn't rotate (got stuck), so i get some wobbling and shaking on high speed.

Then we decide to change both of them. driver side is F'd up and the passenger side was also going so replaced both. But less than 2 days, i broke both axles! They're from NAPA. I know it's lifetime warranty, but why would you want to keep on changing a weak axle if you can get a strong one? just my ...

i forgot to mention, grease are one common sign if the axle is bad, but, mine doesn't have grease outside the boot. We moved it side to side, back and forth, up and down, no loose movement. We decide to take them out, and that's the only time we figure it's bad...

my reman OEM's last longer than NAPA's

I bought the NAPA New axles and they seem to be working fine. After I removed the axles, it was obvious which one was bad. Mine was the inner drivers side joint that failed. I still just replaced both sides. I didn't change out the passenger inner shaft assembly - just the outer axles.

The only thing on the Napa axles, they don't have the donut dampener device on the axle shafts that the OEM ones have but I can't tell the difference. The price was right and comparable to remanufactured axles cost. At least with these you're getting new axles/CV joints.

The joint that went bad on mine still had the boot intact. It just had a ton of slop in the joint.

I had the original OEM's first time it went bad. then replaced with NAPA (the ones that broke) then back with OEM's remanufactured, that's what i have right now... maybe NAPA's good, but it's just could not handle my car

i just wouldn't let anyone experience what i've been through when i broke my axles. Hot day, 4 hours wait for the tow truck, $500 fee, and a one pissed off wife
