Replaced Battery after only 53K Miles - Weak!
Replaced Battery after only 53K Miles - Weak!
I had to replace my battery today, been having shaky/slow and sometimes no starts for the last 3 weeks.
Yesterday I smelled sulfur/rotten eggs in the cabin, thought maybe it was the burger i had for lunch.
Came out this morning, and would not start, called Acura roadside, they came out and jumped it no problem. I replaced it with a cheapie napa battery ($40) cuz I was in a bad mood.
Easy install though, no flesh lost, no acid burns, so I'm happy.
I still think that a battery should last more then 26 months. I got mine in July 2000. It was actually a damn AC-Delco battery, I guess the dealer coulda pro-rated it but they would have charged like $80 for a battery and I didn't have time to mess with them.
I am getting the impression that Acura parts=Good 3rd-party parts=Bad
Our transmissions are 3rd party, right? I've been thru one of those already too.

In my experience with new vehicles, I've never had or heard of an OEM battery last more then 3 years. I'd say that two years is average and expected. Just go to autozone or costco (sears, walmart, pep boys...) and buy a new battery for $40 - $70 that will out perform the OEM in CCA and longevity.
Sealed maintanence-free batteries tend to have a sudden death - they'll work fine and then just stop one day. If I had a 3 year old OEM battery and was looking at a cold winter, I'd just buy a new battery prophylactically and forget about it for 5 or six years (been there, done that).
