Removing OEM strut bar and installing Comptech ?

I searched and came up with everything but what I am looking for (search still broken?)

I am interested in getting a Comptech strut bar but first need to know how to get the stock bar off & bolt the firewall mounts up on the new bar.

The stock bar appears to be attached with rivets, there are no heads or slots in the fasteners that are there.

How did people that removed the OEM bar get those off and how did you mount the Comptech?

Thanks

That is what I am talking about.

The OEM bar is attached with fasteners that have no head or slot. How does it come off & after it's off how do you get the Comptech attached, there is not much room there.

I'm not sure where those "wings" go or how they are mounted.

But I would imagine the ends bolt right up to the strut towers.

I didn't install that particular upper strut bar so not sure about the other answer to your question...sorry.

There is a bit of a lip at the firewall that the "wings" on the OEM bar connects under. On my car there is nothing to grasp or use to turn to remove the fasteners on the OEM bar.

Are you saying that you can't get access to those 10mm bolts that secure the strut bar?

There are 2 square shape covers(1 each side) near the wiper arms. take those out and you'll see two 10 or 12mm nuts on each side. you gotta unbolt those.

I am talking about these.

There is nothing to hold onto under there.

That Cover tabs are held by 2 clips, just press them in and they pop right out. Afterwards, you can easily unscrew the bolts in there...

My suggestion is when you install the Strut bar, it'll be easier if you have the car elevated so the chassis gives a bit of slack (Front tires off the ground) . You can still install it while the car is planted though it'll take a bit of elbow grease.

you dont need to hold anything underneath. the posts/studs are welded on to the stock bar. all the nuts on the stock bar should come off easily. i dont know how comptech bars come originally but when i bought mine used i had to goto a lowes to buy new bolts to act as studs where the 2 points connect to the firewall. i just used a ratchet to put them on the comptech bar. im thinkin the bolts i used were slightly bigger than what was supposed to go on since it wouldnt move once i used the ratchet to put them on. dunno if that makes sense or not... oh yeah i wouldnt tighten the bolts that attach the ends to the bar until the end. made my job a little easier. good luck

If you need the Comptech installation instructions, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy. It also includes torque specs for the bar.

Thanks, PM sent. I bought the strut bar so the instructions which seem to be gone from the net will really help.
