Removing Emblems disaster

I tried to remove the emblems from the trunk. First I removed them with floss then tried to remove the glue with Goo-Gone and that's where i'm at. I made the biggest mistake of using a blade now it's all scatched . There is still glue on the trunk that feels like cement and it won't come off. I've used a hair blow dryer,goo-gone and bug and tar remover, nothing has worked.

Any Suggestions on how to remove the left over glue and the scratches is helpful

Thanks in Advance.

I scratched the hell out of my car the first time I debadged...on my 97 jetta..... Don't worry I debadged about a week ago got most of the glue off but I have a ring of like super glue stuff around each letter.....I even took the acura symbol off and now I have two white rings or holes.....I think I am gonna go to the body shop and see if I can get them to wet sand and repaint the whole thing hopefully around 300-400 dollars if not I am gonna stick all that shit right back on........good luck though........have fun at the body shop though...you will look clean when all said and done though

Give up and glue them back on. That's what I had to do. You aren't go to get that off without wet-sanding/repainting.

bad move using a blade. I didn't have goo gone when I debadged so I had sore thumbnails. I ended up using carb cleaner and it came off easily. Washed the car and waxed to get rid of any residue.

Isn't it just double-sticky tape??? I worked at a body shop and used to pull them off all the time. (not my car though, i like 'em.. at least on the CL-S.. I used to, BEFORE ANYTHING... heat the emblems first with a heat gun (not a blow dryer, not hot enough) but you have to becarefull not to get the paint to hot or you'll pull it off too. Just get them hot enough that if you pull on it with your fingernail or something really thin and sturdy (NO METAL, you'll F*** it all up), it will move outward a bit. At that point, you should be able to keep a firm tug on it and pull right off..SLOWLY! (NO METAL, you'll F*** it all up). The left-over residue shouldn't be too significant if you kept it pretty warm durring this process. That residue can be removed by rubbing firmly on it with the tip of your thumb. Got a little line around the emblem left?? A light cutting rubbing compound then a couple coats of wax should take care of the rest. I'd try to stay away from all those harsh chemicals. Bad for the finish, esp ther ones with silicone i them. I hope this helps fellas!

i had the same problem (without the blade of course). i ended up getting adhesive remover from advance auto parts (expensive goo gone). the trick is to let it soak in (can't find the post where they told ME that). i used napkins and masking tape. make a |_| shaped pocket around each letter and then tilt the bottle to pour some on. let it sit for about five minutes and then scrub with a soft cloth. for the last little bits i ended up using a screwdriver covered with two layers of towel and that seemed to do the trick.

of course, now i have the ghost images of all the letters ... looks kind of cool but a good wax will fix that i hope.

good luck

you can always try:

what possible reason could you have for removing emblems? Did you wake up and say, "Oh, I will remove my emblems today?"

Not sure acetone would be too nice for your paint, I'd suggest layering a couple more coats of wax over your trunk just in case.

Hopefully it's not too late. I would never use acetone on a car. Especially on a part of the car that should have no wax at all to protect it.

I still think I had the best method.....Get rear ended, don't replace badges.
