Removing the bumper...help?!

Ok so...today I went to robeaneee's house to have him clear my headlights for me....well, we started taking off all the clips and screws for the bumper and we come across 3 screws on the very front of the bumper, and I swear to god....we've never come across the hardest fucking screws to take off in our entire lives. We tried a power screwdriver, a t-screwdriver, and several others, and NOTHING worked. So, I drove out to his house for nothing . Have ANY of you come across this problem? And if so, wtf did you do?!

The flat ones? try using a bigger screwdriver with a big head.
mine get stuck too, but I take off my bumper all the time. I almost stripped one by using a phillips that was a little too small.

:edit:
I mean the phillips with the flattened head.

Too late!
but you were talking about these right?

Since you stripped them, you'd have you either use one of those reverse threaded extractor bits or use a dremel and carefully cut out a nice big clean slot for a big flat head srcewdriver.

I was thinking of just going to the dealer or a local body shop and seeing if they can take off those screws, then I can head on over back to the doods house. Would they be able to do that?

How badly stripped is it? try finding a flat head that fits into the stripped hole and give it light quick taps on the end with a hammer while trying to turn the screw.

seriously...those shouldn't be called screws...it seems like theyre pretty much welded to the damn bumper. bullaculla what exactly is that reverse threaded thingy or watever it is? would a body shop or acura dealership be able to take it off?

it looks like a tapered drill bit but with reversed thread. you drill a small hole into the bolt and drive the reversed bit in( in the reverse direction of couse) and it gets lodged since it is tapered, then it should extract the bolt since it is spinning backwards.

I'd seriously try cutting a slot and try to use a big flat head screwdriver first tho.

GRRRRRRR... I had the same battle last weekend.. What you need to do is get a ratchet with the right size socket that fits the bits you use for power drills so you can get better leverage.. Once I did that after attempting a thousand other options they finally came off. I did also strip mine a bit. All I did to get the suckers tapped a bit was take a hammer and the screw driver and pounded down on it a bit to get a better grip.. Best of luck.

Yeah, Autozone doesn't carry them. I had to order mine off the internet.

Are you talking about these? http://www.cardomain.com/item/APC504129B

I've run into the same problem. The paint on the bumper seems to "weld" the damn screws right down. I had to get a really big screw driver and use all of my weight to make sure they didn't strip while turning them. Very frustrating to say the least.

Cleared headlights are worth it though...

Yeah those were a bitch when I removed by front bumper as well. I didn't even bother a screwdriver and went straight to an electric drill with a phillips head bit. I just put light pressure on the trigger and they came out slowly.

The best way to do this is to buy an impact screwdriver from home depot. It's somewhat spring loaded so when you hit it with a hammer on the top, it actually turns the bit. It's designed for extracting really tight screws without damaging anything. I think it's about $20.00.

*ATTENTION*

Problem fucking solved!

So today I went to allmotor's house for him to install the Comptech Headers & Icebox...anyways, as time goes on, we come to the icebox install, and we need to remove the bumper. So we fell into the same predicament, and I did what he did on his car. Since it was too late to get that reverse drill bit, and I wanted it installed, what we did was just take a box cutter and cut a square around the 3 screws so that it wasn't sticking the bumper down anymore. These screws really don't hold the bumper down and aren't very important, so they're just chillin there underneath the plastic. So, problem solved. :fingerfawk: screws!!!

Anyways, rob, we still on for tomorrow? I'll PM you. Silver, I'll PM you about the CT sways install.

P.S. I LOVE THE HEADERS & ICEBOX!
