Removed intake, malfunction light on
Removed intake, malfunction light on
I was originally planning on removing the resonator on my intake, however....once i removed the intake to get to the resonator, i decided to see how the car would feel with no intake at all.....
After gunning it in my neighborhood for a few times, my malfunction light came on.
I checked the owners manual and it says that the malfunction light indicates that the car sensors a problem with the ehaust ....either due to the gas cap being loose or not closed.
I'm thinking that the sensors are off b/c of all the air flow coming in now.
So I then proceded to reset the PCM by pulling out the fuse on the drivers side. Let it sit for 30 mins, and then put the fuse back in. Still malfuntion light on. Not only this....but also when i floor it, the car gets stuck in third gear and doesnt shift, even with the gas pedal floored.
So I put the air filter back on, minus the resonator.....Malfunction light still on, but now when I floor it, it shifts thru all gears and at redline....also it seems to overall have more power and my engine is louder...
My question is, how do I get rid of the malfunction light problem other than taking it to the dealer and telling them what I did?
My freind suggested pulling the positive on my battery and letting everything reset.....

well pulling the batter seemed more of a hassel, b/c it also resets the radio and I would have to call the dealership to get the code.
I thought pulling out the fuse for the PCM and putting it back in does the same thing.
I'm planning on unplugging the battery however when I get home from work and seeing if that resolves the problem of the malfunction light. Does anyone know otherwise ?

did you retighten your gas cap three times?
Why were you driving around w/ no filter on. Just the smallest rock and destroy your engine...nada good idea.
Also, you should be able to find your stereo code in your glove box...usually sitting w/ the manual.

actually no I didnt even bother retightening or checking the gas cap, as it recommends in the owners manual. I will also try that when i get home.
Plus, my intake wasnt completly naked, i did put a piece of cloth that i cut from an old cotton tshirt and tightened the temporary riggin with rubber bands to prevent leaves and big particles from entering into the engine......but the sudden increase of airflow in my opinion made the sensors over dose on O2.
oh well, i'll try the cap thing and also pull the battery and let yall know if that does it.

to make a long story short, yes the cloth idea was bad, it did get sucked in, but got stuck on something.....i was able to retrieve it before it entered the engine.
also, went to go fill up on gas, tightened the gas cap, but the malfunction light remained.
got home, unplugged the battery this time, car is back to normal now. malfunction light is off. i guess pulling the fuse doesnt work, unless there's other fuses im not aware of that i didnt pull ???
oh well......resonator removed, cost me nothing....i would say it definately helps the engine breathe better. but important, reset the ECU after doing this or CAI install.
