Remote Start on a 6 Speeder

Does anyone know where to get the "adaptor" to make a remote start system work on a 6 speed and also have instructions on how to get it to work?

Are you sure you even want to do somethng like this? You'd have to bypass the clutch somehow on start....

Why would you need this? You live in Houston, and you have heated seats? WTF?

I thought about this a while ago, but I don't think I can do it. Because I have a habit to shift to first everytime I park.

well you can have a shop hook everything up except for the wire to bypass the clutch, then you jsut have to tap that wire and put the wire from the alarm/ remote start on it

Compustar has this feature for a manual car. Cliffords makes one as well. They both will only start your car if the car is in N, and/or the ebrake is on. Viper does not have this feature. Even the lastest ones.

Sounds like a complete waste of money to me. Why not just spend the money on something else like a performance mod.

You can do this with any remote start. It's a good feature to have regardless of what climate you live in.

I believe it's illegal to put a remote start in a manual transsmission car, at least in MI I think it is. I would take that into consideration because if anything ever happened you would be 100% liable for any damage/injury.

Nope. If you have the proper safeguards it can be done. I did it for my son and he leaves in Michigan. Classic Stereo in Grand Rapids installed it. Only works if the caris in neutral.

A few years back, one guy I worked with installed a remote starter on his 5-Speed Hyundai without any kind of safety switch or gear sensor.
He always made sure to leave it in neutral when parking.
One time he forgot and he hit the button and watched the car drive across the parking lot and right into a TREE !!!

If you're going to install a remote starter on a car with a manual, that's your decision to make. My advice is to find a shop with a great reputation that has installed remote starts on manuals before. Also make sure that you pick a model that is designed for use on a manual - you can rig up any remote starter to work on a manual, but only one that is intended for a manual has the proper safeguards built into it.

Once you've gotten it installed, I'd recommend testing it out - find a big empty parking lot, shut off the car in first gear, and try to start it with the remote (while you're in the car). If it starts, go demand your money back.

Remote starts on manuals are legal in all 50 states. As long as the remote start system has the features that make it work with a stick, & say they work. The setups that are ilegal are the ones that are jerry rigged to work.

My buddy has one on his Supra TT 6-speed. I think he has to press buttons on the remote before getting out of his car, and the car must be in neutral, or it won't even work. Not certain, though.

The guy who installed mine said he's done them for manuals before, but he insists that the owner sign a waiver if damage results from leaving it in gear.

Dude, I don't suggest doing this.

I installed an autostart on my friends civic. it was a 5mt. I bypassed the clutch sensor.

Sure enough, we park his car. We give it one last test. And what do you know. He left it in gear.

Away the car went, over the curb into grass and slammed into a iron fence 1/2 knocking it over. (i lived in a gated community at the time)

needless to say, i disconnected the autostart... No way i was going to be held liable for that!

Don't do it... or one of your "bad days" will turn out to be a REALLY bad day.

There is a way to do it. Your installer needs to be talented enough to design a safety in which it grounds out the autostart telling it not to start when it's in gear. Do NOT just have an installer bypass the clutch. My friend has done numerous manuals, and NONE HAS EVER started in gear.

This idea is about as smart as flying an airplane with all the control surface locks still installed. Auto, ok, but manual, no.

This is the same reason the CLS6 does not have VSA-no way to impliment it 100% of the time.

Humans are prone to making mistakes. Putting the car into neutral and applying the parking brake, every time, doesn't make you stupid, but it borders on it. I just don't want to see you damage your car, and maybe someone elses, or someone else!

Some transmissions have a neutral sensor. Which makes life a lot easier.

There isn't really any other reliable way of doing it. I could see fabricating a switch for the linkage. But that wouldn't last over time.

So on the newer veichles it's a breeze but older ones will be a challenge.

My friend couldn't do it to an STI because of the space limits of the shifter box. But we found on the WRX forum the neutral safety switch and he tapped it into there. So far it's work like a charm on 2 different STIs of my buddies.

You should also get window roll up/down option too . I'll try to get a vid of mine today
